Ever didn't like coming into the city, memories from her past always subconsciously making her hand come up to the long scar along her neck which, thankfully she was saved from. Being out in such a busy, crowded place always frightened here, there was so many people, so many factors that she couldn't calculate or see, so many thoughts of her childhood happening all over again. But, Ever knew she couldn't live like this, she was nearing her twenties, she couldn't be a coward forever! She was a girl who played with baby dragons all her life, why was the City such a scary thought?! She felt pathetic, so she braved herself, kissed her father goodbye for the day and apparated to London.
Walking about, she hesitantly avoided people, sticking close to the walls of buildings as her red hair bounced about in bunched curls, but soon she became more confident as she merged with the crowd, although her hand was always nearing her wand, she didn't trust the people around her but she was less afraid of them. She wasn't that nine year old girl in her pretty dress anymore, no, she was a strong, independent woman who could easily hold herself against any man, even with her small stature she was stronger than she looked. She was not to be underestimated, she was a lion in sheeps' clothing.
Finding a park, Ever entered into it, the smell of nature a familiar comfort as she was surprised by the sheer size of the place, even in such a small place like London there was such a magnificent park. Ever grew up in nature, this was her true home, not in skyscrapers and business buildings, no, trees, mountains and grass were her comforting thoughts of home, back at the reserve.
Finding a nice, shaded area Ever sat down on the grass, kicking off her shoes and pulling off her socks as she let her toes dig into the grass with a relaxed sigh. Closing her eyes she let all her worries slip from her mind, her hair blowing in the wind as it whispered to her stories of old, nature itself singing for her in that moment. Until someone else spoke and broke the spell, making Ever pull herself from her revere of serenity.

Jacob had the day off. It was a rare occasion but he was thankful for the break. His aching muscles needed it, they needed a day of rest before he once again trained. So he decided to go out and look around. He hadn't really had the chance to be out and about since the Minister died. He wondered if it was different, if it had taken it's toll on people. As he walked through the magical park of London it was obvious that once again people were fearing a new threat to their world. Jacob had to wonder why history repeated itself. It hadn't even been two decades yet they were facing another threat, one which he wasn't sure would be worse than Voldemort or not.
He decided to leave magical London and walk through Muggle London. There was some comfort he found in walking amongst the people who had no idea about the threat they could soon be facing. They didn't realise there was a man and his followers who hated them so much he planned to kill them all off. They were all blissfully unaware as they worried over appointments, bills and work. It was strange to think how naive they were to the world that lived inside theirs. He walked, moving through the crowd almost unseen as he maneuvered his way between people until he saw a park.
He crossed the road and entered, enjoying the open space and taking a deep breath, before opening his eyes and looking around for a place to relax. He could easily sit here and watch the world for hours. It was then he saw flaming red hair, hair that he could recognise anywhere. He looked over at the girl, Ever. She was someone he hadn't talked to in a long time. She had been in his brother's year, she was kind and unique. She wasn't like the other girls. It was why when he changed, when he went into the dark place he fell in to, he stopped talking to her. Not only did he associate her with Gabe, but he also thought she was too good to put up with someone like him. He hadn't known if his loss of friendship had affected her or not.
He decided however that now was a good time to go and talk to her. He had changed again. He would never go back to that innocent, geeky, naive boy he had been. No he could never return to that but it didn't matter. He was nicer now, he wasn't drinking a lot, or doing drugs ever and he hadn't had sex in months. He was proud of himself since he use to be drunk by 2 every day and sleep with at least one girl a day. He walked over, not sure how she'd react to seeing him. They had been somewhat close when they had been friends before he had just dropped her.
"Now here I thought you hated cities, yet you're in the middle of one? Surprising." He said, a small smile on his lips as he looked down at the girl who, even though was a year older, had always seemed like a young child in need of protection. He doubted she was still like that but you never knew. "It's been a while Evergreen Weasley." He said. It was true, it had been around two years.

Ever was scared to be out in public like this but she felt a little more secure being in this park than she had been out in the open streets. At least here she could hear the wind and feel the sun on her skin, and the sound of cars and the hustle and bustle of the city was just a distant white noise. She shouldn't be afraid here, she needed to get over this fear of people and the city, she needed to grow up a little more. She knew she was a little baby when it came to this, her height was shorter than most girls her age, her face was still round and her features pixie like, all in all she still looked the child that had been kidnapped all those years ago.
At the familiar voice she opened her bright azure eyes to look at Jacob McRae, the younger brother of Gabe who Ever had been particularly fond of, they both shared the love of animals and he was just as free spirited as she was. "I do still hate cities but I need to get over this irrational fear," Ever said with a smile, her fingers running through her bright red curls, "what better way to do that then flooding. If I can survive the day out in the city then maybe it won't be so bad." She hoped this was true, because so far she had already escaped from the people to this quiet and secluded park where there was only a few people milling about, so it was easier on her than the streets.
"It has been quite a while Jake," she added, patting the spot next to her on the grass, "come sit, we have a lot of catching up to do, especially with all these rumors I've been hearing." She waited till he was seated before she wrapped her thin arms around him in a quick hug, burying her face into his neck, breathing in the familiarity of him. Jake and her, through Gabe had been good friends. "Gosh you've gotten big, you used to be so cute, where's my cute little Jakey gone?" Ever teased, punching him lightly in the arm as she pulled away.

Jacob looked down at there red-head with an amused smirk on his face at her words. He wasn't sure her theory was right but he wasn't about to let her know that. Fear was a dangerous thing, especially when you had a good reason to have it. Jacob had never known her fear of cities but he had always assumed it was to do with the scar across her neck. One that looked a lot like one made by a knife. Of course he'd never asked, he had always been too polite to ever ask something so personal. Now? He wasn't so sure. When she patted the ground next to her, asking him to sit and talking about rumours he did so with a groan.
"I'm just going to warn you that they're probably all true." He said as he sat on the ground, tensing as she hugged him. He wasn't use to people from his past hugging him. In fact people usually slapped him or cursed him, never a hug. Gabe was the exception but he wasn't sure he'd hug him now, not after everything. He wondered if Ever had seen Gabe, talked to him? He brushed it off, not thinking about it as he brought a hand up and hugged her from the side, patting her shoulder awkwardly before leaning back slightly, glad that the embrace didn't last long.
He chuckled at her comment, knowing that he had changed a lot. He couldn't remember really if she'd been around when Gabe left but before he had he'd been a wimp. That was the only way to put it. He was a skinny boy with barely any muscle and no knowledge of how to look good. Of course that changed afterwards. He'd gained some muscle, enough to be attractive. He'd also grown though that wasn't on purpose. However now? Now with all the training he had a lot of well-defined muscle. He was extremely proud of what was under his shirt.
"Well time does change someone. So does Auror training might I add." He shrugged. "I'm not the cute boy you once knew."

Ever felt Jacob tense up in her embrace and she wondered why. Sure, she hadn't seen him in two year or so but that was no reason for him to be so...distant. It hurt to think that the little boy she had once known was long gone, and from the stories she'd heard from her younger cousins on the sexual...adventures the boy had gone through with quite a few girls from the grades. Ever had to wonder how it had come to this, she remembered when her friend Gabriel had dropped out of school and disappeared off the face of the planet, although he still sent her letters once a month to tell her of his new adventure or some new creature he had encountered.
Ever loved the McRae, she had been big fans of his parents who were well known Magizoologists, so what was there not to love when she'd go over to their house and spend hours all talking together about dragons or adventures they'd been on in the deep African jungle. It was always a treat, to talk with the McRae family yet with one of the boys right in front of her, he was acting so distant as if she hadn't known him since he was a little 10 year old wishing he was going to Hogwarts as well. "Well if they are true...good on you?" she said with a little frown to herself, mulling over if that was right word to say before she just gave up and went back to smiling.
"An auror now huh? So not so much into the magical creatures as the rest of your family?" laughs jokingly as her long locks blew in the breeze, making her tuck a stray piece behind her ear, feeling the raising skin though of her scar and she quickly jerked her hand away from her neck, taking a deep breath. Calm...calm...don't think about that incident, think happy thoughts, happy place, find that happy place like Grandma had told her to... Ever had to stay calm, she didn't want to think about that while she was sitting smack bam in the center of the city where is had happened, although she felt a little better that Jacob was beside her... He'd protect her...right?
"You'll still always be like Jack to me, no matter how big or strong you get," she said with a small smile, wrapping her arms around herself as she brought her knees to her chest, still not being able to shake the feeling that someone was watching, even though there probably wasn't it was just that irrational fear she had since childhood, she couldn't help it. "So what else have you been up to, besides being an auror."

Jacob didn't hug Ever back. He wasn't really a hugging person unless it involved Vita or even Erin. It wasn't a gesture he was overly fond of because you only hugged people you cared about and he did't really like displaying that a whole lot. He knew that the girl had known him a long time but she was a connection to his brother and despite the fact that thing had been sorted, it still left him uneasy. She was on rocky ground to him although he was being friendly. He wasn't going to be the person she thought he was just for her sake.
He gave her a strange look when she said good for him. She obviously can't have heard that much about him if she thought it was good for him. She must have only heard about the sex but of course even then that was pushing being good for him. Of course rumours werne't exactly trust worthy sorts and it seemed she had been given a very, very light overview of what he'd been like. That was probably a good thing as well. "I wouldn't say it was good for me but if you say that it means you barely know a thing which is good." He said with a shrug.
Her next line didn't get a reaction out of him. He just gazed forward with a blank expression. He had always loved magical creatures and deep down inside him they were his passion but for now he couldn't be like the rest of his family. He just couldn't bring himself to do it. He couldn't be like his brother. Of course no-one knew that secret about him, not even Vita. He liked to keep his passion hidden and controlled. Maybe one day when the war was over he'd give up being an auror and go to work with animals. For now he would keep it in check.
He turned to her at her next comment with a raised eyebrow. no-one had called him Jack in a very long time. Jake maybe, Jacob mostly but Jack? No. He wasn't going to get sentimental however. He smiled and looked away as she curled up. He had a feeling she wasn't as comfortable as she made herself out to be. She looked like a child the way she was sitting. "I'm way too big and you're way too small for you to ever consider me little." He said, slightly annoyed by the nickname. He didn't like being called little. "Not a lot. Getting my life in order after a few years of having it not in order. It's hard when a lot of people you knew hate you for good reason." He said with a shrug. It didn't really affect him that much.

"Well what I do or don't know I'm sure you'd rather not discuss, and nor would I want to ask about your sexual advances on women," rolls her bright blue eyes at the younger male. "You're like a little brother to me, gosh I'd like to know what Gabe would say if he heard some of the things..." Ever knew Gabe was back in town again after such a long time, she'd have to make sure to catch up with him and she made a mental note to owl him later, maybe even invite him out to the reserve since she knew how much he loved to come and see the dragons, even though his scars on his body were caused by dragons.
Ever could only sigh internally, she could see that the boy beside her was no longer the Jacob McRae she had once known, this man was different and she wasn't sure how to approach this. She was trying her best to stay calm in this unknown world but the more she talked with Jacob and the more he was different made her breath instinctively quicken as he became a stranger. She had to not think like that though, she knew Jacob, she did...he wasn't some random male even though he was acting like one, she knew him, there was nothing to be afraid of, nothing to fear...
"Only because I'm little compared to everyone in the world Jack," Ever said softly, hugged herself tighter as she tried to take comfort in herself. If only her father was here, or Tristan then maybe she'd feel a little more at ease. She was starting to stress out now, this was a bad idea, a very bad idea. "I doubt people hate you," Ever said in response to his words, not really sure why he was acting to indifferent to this. If he really was indifferent to his old life, would he have come up and approached her himself? She didn't think so. "But I'm glad to hear you're getting your life in order, that's a good thing."
"You should come out to the reserve someday," Ever commented, "I know you used to love dragons when you were younger."
