It had been a busy past few weeks for Katy. She had delivered her grandson, brought Bethany back to life and continued to play Wife and Mummy as she did every day. It didn't help that Mungos seemed to be filled with more and more people each day. What with all of the mini attacks going on, people came in with worse injuries than the last people. More people had died in the sight of Katy Maddix than she had ever wanted to see.
She walked around the hospital, her doctors coat on and charts in her hands. She was scanning the words as she walked when she passed by Jay. Katy was sure he was uneasy after Beth's accident, she was getting better but still weak from the loss of blood. With a gentle smile, she grabbed his papers from his hands and added it to her ever-growing stack. "I got this. Go see Beth, maybe take Nate in to go see her," she winked at him before walking merrily on her way, familiarizing herself with Jay's cases.
When Katy had gotten back to her office to work on and read the charts, she noticed a letter sitting on her desk. She gently sat down the stack and lifted the envelope, opening it with a swift flick of her finger and reading it.
The letter was from the Ministry. It was urgent she got there. They had important information about her family. Her mind jumped straight to Don. Was her husband alright? Was he going to come home? Was he hurt? Oh God. Was he dead? Her pulse began to race as she continued to read, "we have informed your husband of this urgency and we will speak to the both of you in private upon your arrival." So it wasn't Don. If it wasn't Don then...
Her babies.
Katy dropped the letter, it floated to the ground weightless as she Apperated on the spot to the Ministry. Katy didn't know who she was supposed to be talking to, and it wasn't until she ran into a familiar co-worker of Don's did she stop to talk to them. "I got a letter, I came here as fast as I could and-"
"Mrs. Maddix," the man began. No. People never referred to her as "Mrs. Maddix," she was Katy. They all knew her as Katy. "I would feel more comfortable if we waited for your husband to arrive."
Katy stated at him in disbelief. There was an urgent matter and she was being told to wait for Don? The hell with that! Don could very well be on the other side of the Ministry and by then, she would have fainted from her hyperventilation. "Like hell we will. I demand to know what's going on here!"
"Mrs. Maddix, please. Your husband will be here shortly and we can talk in private the-"
"No. You're going to tell me now or so help me God you don't want to know what will happen next. What is wrong with my family?" Katy was seething, her heart was pounding. She just wanted to know what was wrong. She tried to tell herself that it was nothing, that it would all be fine, that Don would fix-
"Mrs. Maddix, your father, Charles Black, has escaped from Azkaban."
Katy stared at him for a moment. Azkaban? He escaped? Oh God. He was going to come after her. He was going to beat her up all over again. No. No Don would take them into hiding. He would protect them from Charles.
"Mrs. Maddix, Katy, what I'm about to tell you isn't good news. Which is why I asked you kindly to talk in private." He gripped her arms as if he were going to try to keep her up. Was it so bad that he thought she would collapse? Her ears began to ring as she began to panic. "He took your children, Jenna and Will, from the daycare today. No one saw a thing before the noticed the two of them couldn't be found everywhere. There was a note left behind," He let go of her with one hand to grab a piece of paper and hand it to her.
I told you I would find you, Katy.

Katy dropped the piece of paper and everything the man was saying fell on numb ears. There was a ringing in the room and Katy couldn't focus. He had taken her children, he had taken her babies from her. The man who had beat her every day of her childhood was now in possession of her own children. Katy couldn't breathe.
Tears filled her eyes as she panicked. He took her babies. He took her babies! She saw the man wave someone over, she assumed it was her husband. Katy felt the tears run down her cheeks and then her knees gave out as she collapsed to the door, sobs bursting from her chest as she bawled into her hands. She could hear the man talking again as the ringing faded, he was speaking to Don and Katy was trying to compose herself.
Her heart was broken. How could she ever stop crying when her babies weren't going to be home that night? When she wouldn't be able to tuck them in and kiss them goodnight? What if they didn't have food? What if they were cold? What if they were scared? What if Charles hit them?
These questions brought on an entire new round of tears as Katy cried, squeezing her eyes shut and covering her face with her hands.
