Gabby had worked the afternoon shift. It wasn't often she did but she had decided that she wanted that night off. Not because she wanted to go out, the only times she ever went out was when she was on a date and she hadn't had one of those in a while. She just missed being outside at night. She decided she would go and find Beckett. She hadn't seen him in a while and she missed him. She wanted to see how he was getting on and just to hug him. She loved hugging him, mainly because she had been doing it practically since she was born. Of course he wouldn't really get a choice in the matter.
She finished her shift at it was around six. She was wearing a black dress with an apron around the middle. Almost more like a maid than a waitress. Sometimes she was for the rooms upstairs. She was in the back room as she made sure she looked presentable for outside and not like she'd just been serving people for the past 8 hours. She smiled to herself in the reflection as she thought of seeing the Drayton boy when she walked out the front and was greeted with the sight of not Beckett but Phoenix, the other Drayton. A huge grin spread across her face and she raced across the room and threw her arms around him.
"Nixxy! Hey! It's been way too long!" She said as she pulled away with a hurt frown. "I almost convinced myself you were avoiding me but I know you'd never do that." She grinned up at the eldest Drayton. They may have shared the last name but he wasn't her brother, though he might as well have been. He was her cousin. He probably also didn't like her hugging him like that, especially not in public but she didn't care/ "How are you? Have you been looking after yourself properly?" She asked.

Phoenix was having a shit, shit time. Aubree's death day was coming up soon, and like always he couldn't even go visit her grave without Beckett trying to deck him in the face, so he always had to visit earlier or later, something which he hated. Hell, Nix had barely even been able to hold himself together at her funeral, what with his family's cold eyes on him, he had been at fault after all. His parents over the years had tried to connect with him again but he could still feel the hesitation in their touch, their occasional looks of judgement and blame which they subconsciously sent him, but he felt them nevertheless.
He was going to go to the Leaky for a drink, even though it was still early, Nix didn't care. He just wanted to forget his memories and the guilt he felt, drown himself to oblivion then go home and sleep it off, and hopefully feel a bit better in the morning (but that never happened, ever). Apparating to the establishment he walked in, ignoring stares from people who either recognised his face, looked at him for his handsome face, or just plain looked up to see who the next customer to enter the store was.
He wasn't expecting to be tackled by a familiar head of hair, his body freezing up instinctively. "...Gabby..." Nix said cautiously, she was the only one in his family that still treated him as she once had, although he knew that she had blamed him for the death of Aubree as she had practically shut everyone from her life for years after the death of her cousin and his sister. It had been a tragedy that he had caused, and he himself blamed himself for her death. He would never live it down until he killed Rainer Greyback once and for all. That was his ultimate goal, even if he had to die in the process he'd take that damn werewolf down with him, biting and kicking if he had to. "I've been...alright."
He extracted herself from her grasp, moving over to the counter as he leant against it, ordering a scotch as he turned back to his cousin with blank eyes, not daring to show any emotion that could give away his current unsettling mental state. "And you? Alright?"

Gabby didn't take offense to Phoenix's caution around her. She was use to it by now. He didn't seem to understand that she didn't hate or feel resentment towards him. Of course he never believed her if she told him. Aubree's death had definitely affected him the most. He blamed himself and Gabby hated the fact Beckett and his parents did as well. He didn't deserve that self hate. It had not been his fault. At first she had thought the same but after he dream she realised it wasn't. It was Aubree's choice to follow him, she would have done the same for Beckett, or even herself.
When he said he'd been alright she didn't stop smiling. She tried to be as positive and happy whenever she was around Phoenix. She also tried to smother him in love which he usually didn't like but he didn't really get a choice. He needed it and she was always going to be there to give it to him. One day he would realise it wasn't his fault. One day. He broke free from her grasp and walked away, she followed, she wasn't going to be shaken that easily. He ordered a drink and she lent next to him.
"I've been good, working here as usual and still living with Dad. Talked to Becket recently?" She asked knowing it was cheeky and she might get sworn at but she was by far us to it.

Phoenix didn't like his family, well, he loved them deep down but he couldn't stand to be around them. There was too much guilt and too much hurt in their eyes as they looked at him. It was a mix of pain, despise and anger. Nix had been the one to kill Aubree, the baby of their family, how could they have not looked at the man responsible for it in distaste. Phoenix didn't like family gatherings, hell he didn't even go home anymore since the last time he had it had been awkward as fuck and he had left the house to go home and get drunk half way through dinner.
He only hoped that this year, Beckett wouldn't chase him away from Aubree's grave, he really wanted to be able to pay his respects and say his apologises to her, yet again. It had been nearly eight years now and Nix was only growing stronger, faster, smarter, he was going to get Rainer Greyback if it was the last thing he did. That would be his freedom.
"That's...good," he commented nonchalantly, trying to act like he was indifferent about this all. He didn't want to form attachments with his family again, and it was hard since Gabby was also so insistent on being around him when it had been her who had probably blamed him the most at the time. He knew how close she and Aubree had been, it had been tough for them all but it had been Gabby who pulled away the most when it had happened. "I met him by accident, it didn't end...well." Nix replied simply, he didn't want to talk about his brother, Beckett was always a sore topic for Nix because he knew his brother would love to kick the shit out of him.

Gabby grinned as Nix said it was good. At least he commented and asked. He use to just tell her to fuck off. She remembered the first time they saw each other after it happened. It had been a year and he was the first person she spoke to. He had thrown her out, not caring, or acting like it. She had been 16 at the time but she had already made her resolve before she went to see him. She wasn't going to let him throw her out of his life, just because he threw her out his house. She pestered him and now they were at this point. He didn't want her around but she didn't give him a choice.
She frowned when he mentioned Beckett but it was forced. She hadn't known about that but now she did and she would pester Beckett about it. He still liked her at least. Well he had no reason not to though she was sure he didn't approve that she still liked Phoenix and had a relationship with him. She turned her frown into a sad smile as she readied herself to ask a question she wouldn't get a good response to. She knew that the subject she was about to bring up was worse than bringing up Beckett.
"Are you going to go to her grave?" She asked quietly, feeling her own sadness as she thought about it but before he could storm out, get angry or whatever he was going to do Gabby spoke again. "I can distract Beckett for an hour or two and tell you the times so you won't be disturbed." She added smiling at him with love. She did love her cousin, he was her brother in her mind, whether it was by blood or not. She would do anything for him, despite the fact he tried to hate her.

Phoenix was being...plesant enough he thought, that Gabby would accept it and get off his back. He had tried to resolve his issues with his family for so many years and while he could talk with them in a normal manner it held no emotion nor care, if he asked you how was your day he really didn't care, because he knew that his family didn't care either. What was the point of these useless pleasantries when his family had cast him out long ago. Only Gabby dared to even speak normally with him like they used to, she still even tried to get him to family gatherings or dinners which his parents and brother had 'forgotten' to invite him to.
Nix could see she was forcing herself to be happy, like she was trying to make this all better. As if smiling was going to change anything, nothing could bring back Aubree and nothing could erase the guilt which hung over his head other than the moment he'd hold Rainer Greyback's severed head aloft above a crowd of millions, then, and then only would he be free of the bounds of guilt and sorrow.
"...No," was all he said as she said she would distract him, like that would ever work on Beckett. It was Aubree's death day, Beckett would by standing by the grave day and night, rain or shine. Nix had no chance to go see her so he'd be going a week after, just like he always did. The week after was the day they had buried her in that marked grave. Beloved Daughter, forever eleven, an angel above to watch over us all. Phoenix always bought a bunch of Orchids, they had always been Aubree's favourite flower, and he always made sure to bring them to her grave every year. Just one orchid with a white, lacey ribbon tied around it for his baby sister that he had murdered.
Taking his scotch he sipped at it, he knew he couldn't be drunk around Gabby since she'd become insistent that he needed help, AA or some shit like that. Phoenix didn't have time for that, so he'd just play his usual cool and collected Phoenix Drayton that he was around Gabby, say his pleasantries then move on.

Gabby looked at her cousin intently, wondering what he would respond with. Of course he was never going to actually accept her help. She knew that but maybe one day he would surprise her and show some consideration or realise that she was there for him and always would be. She had no idea why he was still so reluctant to just accept her back in to his life and heart. She wasn't like the others. She loved him, she didn't blame him yet he treated her the same way he treated everyone. One day maybe he would give away the fact that he still cared. He was slowly, very slowly warming to her. Or at least that's what she told himself.
Then he said no and she sighed. Why couldn't he just accept her help? She was going to go see Beckett and she was going to keep him away. It wasn't purely for Phoenix either, she needed him and she knew Phoenix wouldn't be there for her. She did sometimes wonder why she bothered. He was never going to be nice to her or hug her or actually care again which she hated but she knew if she left she would just be proving everything he thought about her and the family. She couldn't abandon him.
"Well if you change your mind I'm going to be with him from 10 until 12. 11 would be the safest time to go. He said he would spend some time with me..." She trailed off because it was true, she needed a shoulder to cry on.
She then watched him sip his drink and cringed slightly. She was always surprised that he drank still after all the pain and trouble it had caused him. She knew, well, heard that it was a way to block pain but she was surprised he would risk that. She had to wonder if he'd care if his drinking affected someone else again. What if she got killed because of him? He probably wouldn't be bothered, it was in a fantasy world that Phoenix would once again be protective of her like he use to be.
"I hope you're taking care of yourself Nixxy. Life does get better you know." She said before smiling and changing the subject entirely. "Maybe you could meet my boyfriend?"
