The sun was shining bright in the sky but it seemed like a dark cloud was looking over Avery's head. Since her meeting with Zac, she couldn't get him out of her head. Their kiss still lingered on her lips and it seemed as if she were doing the exact opposite of what he had wanted. She couldn't forget him no matter how hard she tried. Last night, when a man had tried to touch her, she shied away from them. She didn't want anyone else to touch her, not if they weren't Zac. What was happening to her? Had his appearance really had that much of an effect on her? Was she really going to abstain from sex simply because they weren't Zac? Avery was walking home from work and she took a shortcut through the park. Her heels clicked on the cement and she tried to get the thoughts of Zac out of her head. But every time she succeeded in thinking about something else, another memory would come to throw her off. She ran her fingers through her hair and swore quietly to herself. She was passing by the playground and she watched all of the kids run around, playing with each other. The blonde smiled to herself, ironically enough, she had always wanted a little one to run around her home. But it seemed as if the thought was nothing more than a dream, there was no way she could raise a baby well on her own. Avery was positive she would be a terrible mother. She was lost in her thoughts again when something, or someone, ran into her. Avery looked down to see a little boy on the ground after their crash. She kneeled to the ground and offered her hands to him, "Need some help, little guy?" She asked him with a smile, one of those true smiles that were so rarely seen. That was when she felt someone else join them and she looked up, her smile quickly fading. Now he was just stalking her. There was no way they could have run into each other again. Unless Fate was trying to tell them something....No. No. It was pure coincidence. But the question was, why was he here? Her eyes glanced down at the little boy and she couldn't help but start to imagine everything that resembled Zac's. Her heart seemed to shatter in her chest again and she knew Zac would feel it. He had moved on long ago, he had met someone else, started a family and now he had a son. Everything he had said was complete bullshit. He had lied to her, he had made her feel terrible while he had a family to go home to. He had let her kiss him! Hurt, anger, thousands of emotions seemed to run through her as she continued to glance from the boy she was helping, to the man who had broken and then stole again, her heart.

After the recent attack and the death of Kingsley, the Minister for Magic it was surprising how quickly things had been set back to order. There was a new minister, some bloke who Zac only saw around the Ministry so he couldn't exactly have an opinion whether he'd be a good minister or not yet, but he was hoping for someone who'd be able to handle this over looming war. Even though with all the changes to the staff, the security being removed and recast all around the Ministry, new laws set in place, Zac still was given time off from work, probably since he'd been working extra shifts working with teams to secure the Ministry again from any breeches. So with Brayden in his arm, Sye and Corrabell deciding to stay home to watch a movie with their mum who, for the first time in many weeks had the day off. Bray however stamped his foot, exclaimed that he wanted to go out to the park and Zac had to resort to taking him out himself, although only until the toddler had enough before getting too tired. So with Bray held protectively in his arms he apparated to Albus Park, the magical park which was situated in London and where the eldest Elwood frequented with his younger siblings. Seeing a few familiar faces he let Bray toddle off to play, he himself taking a seat over with the other parents, always keeping an eye on Brayden. He stood though when he saw Brayden walk into a blonde, Zac could only see them from behind but he quickly was making his way over. You never knew these days who was a pedophile or who was a rapist, even women he'd found out from the muggle news and he wasn't about to let his youngest brother come to any harm. It was only as he approached and saw the blonde's face was he truly taken aback. Avery? Again? What was this evil trickery from the Gods above? Why were they constantly forcing their paths to cross, especially since the last time Zac had met Avery, they had said their final goodbyes. Not like it had done much though, truthfully Avery still stuck in Zac's mind like a sticky-charm to gravure posters. Brayden looked up at him as he approached and the young boy grinned widely and walked over, lifting up his arms to which Zac responded to pick him up, settling the young boy on his hip. "Avery...what are you doing here?" Zac asked, his voice was void of all of the emotions he still held for the woman standing before him, and, rather it was polite, as two acquaintances would talk because that's all they were now. Everything in the past was (supposedly) forgotten, and Zac had no claim on the blonde before him, no matter how much he wished he did there was nothing between them anymore.

Avery stood up slowly as the little boy was picked up by Zac. When tears began to well in her eyes, she looked away quickly, batting them back. He had lied to her. But they were completely over now. Every thought of him was gone. Every memory was pushed back. They were allowed to be with others, weren't they? Avery cursed him silently. Why couldn't he have told her about his son earlier? That he had a family?
She was silent for a moment, she needed to strengthen her voice although he could probably feel everything she was feeling anyway. When Avery was ready, she looked up at the father and son. "I was walking home from work," she told him, she tried to put friendliness in her tone but it fell flat. That fake smile was on her lips again. "This little guy here ran into me so I stopped to help him up." However, when she caught the little boy's eye, a true smile slipped onto her face. But the throbbing heart in her chest when she saw him, Avery wasn't sure she could stay here much longer.
The blonde smoothed out her black dress, anything to busy her hands. She swallowed the lump that was growing in her throat and she met Zac's eyes again. "And you? Just out for a walk in the park with...?" She couldn't get the words: "Your son" out.

Positioning Brayden on his hip Zac had to wonder why this was all panning out like this, and just when he had steeled himself to get over the woman before him too. Avery was looking as gorgeous as always ans Zac resisted the urge to lean in and tuck a stray piece of hair behind her ear, just like he had always done back in their Hogwarts' sweetheart time. It was hard, to keep his self control but somehow he was managing. Just though, just.
"...Well thank you for helping him he's a bit of a clutz, all knees and two left feet," Zac joked lightly, his chuckle forced as he tried to keep the mood light. He could sense her anger and hurt, and he expected no less from Avery, he had just been re-dump dumped by her in collation to him doing it to her in the past, so of course all those old feelings, emotions and memories were fresh in mind. Hell, Zac felt the exact same way, and he cursed his tepidness for not having done anything earlier, maybe their friendship could have been saved had he had the balls to speak to her before their run in the other day.
"Bray," Zac answered the end of her sentence, he realised that she hadn't ever met his three youngest siblings since they had split since his mother had only been pregnant with Corra at that stage. "We came out to play since his brother and sister wanted to stay home with their mum for a movie night, a bit of a cute cuddle session I think." Zac smiled, thinking about the image of his mum and the two kids snuggled up to her sides, it was an adorable scene, unaware that he was totally making Avery misunderstand everything.

Avery continued to smile at the little boy as Zac announced his name. It brought back flashes of nights when her and Zac would lay beneath the stars and she would throw out names for their future children. It had been those nights, cuddled on a blanket, her fingers intertwined with his, debating on names for their firstborn son that Avery had thought they were going to be together forever. How stupid her younger self had been. Nothing lasted forever and people moved on. This thought was proven true as Zac continued on speaking and her heart fell to the ground.
Zac had three children. Two sons and a daughter. And a wife. Zac was married, someone in the world was Mrs. Zachary Elwood. Avery could almost see the beating organ on the dull, grey cement. She felt her lip quiver and she bit down on it. No. She couldn't feel this way anymore. It wasn't right. They had moved on.
A pang of pain ran through her as she met his eyes again. If he was married, happily so, then why had he all but admitted he still loved her the other day? Why had he let her kiss him good-bye? Why had he been so passionate about wanting to take back the day at the waterfall? Tears filled her blue eyes and they flowed over the brim. She tried to stop the waterworks but it just wasn't happening. "Well. I-I'm glad you're happy, Zac. I always knew you would be," she gave him her fake smile as she took a step away.
Avery wanted to scream, to cry, to hate him all over again but she couldn't. She never would be able to hate Zac. He would always have her heart, he would always be the one she ran to.

Zac shifted Bray on his hip, the young boy already grasping at the lapels of his jacket as he stared unblinkingly at Avery, almost owlishly. It wasn't unusual for Bray though, being the youngest he was also quite shy around strangers. Avery had never actually met Zac's three youngest siblings, Corrabelle, Sye and Brayden. Being the eldest, and at his age Zac was frequently mistaken for being the father of his three youngest siblings, it was entirely possible after all. He was however, in this moment totally oblivious as to how this situation looked, instead he was far too caught up in the emotional turmoil his heart was currently in.
The eldest Elwood felt his brow furrow in confusion as Avery practically teared up before him and stepped away, her words that were spoken utterly befuddling him. His hand snatched out quick to grab her wrist, the crease between his eyes showing his current state of mind, hazel eyes betraying his inner turmoil. "Happy? Avery I am far from happy. I thought I made it clear to you that it was the biggest mistake of my life to have left you alone by the waterfall... I would take it all back if I could, if I had a timeturner it would be different, but I don't and I can't take back what happened, but it doesn't make me at all happy. Far from it."
Bray seemingly sensed Zac's discomfort as he struggled in his grip, whining slightly and shifted till his hands were encircled around his neck instead, the small boy snuggling up against him in comfort. "I let you go, and I regret that everyday," Zac whispered back, still holding her wrist in his large calloused hands, his other supporting Bray around his neck. Zac tried to show his sincerity through his gaze, almost pleading with Avery to believe him since it was the truth. He knew it was long gone for them to be able to work things through, but he still didn't want her to forget about him. He wasn't sure he could deal with that.

He grabbed her and Avery tensed, her whole body froze into a statue. Every muscle tightened with the familiar touch and her heart ached with the memories that flooded back to her. She broke her eyes away from him when he spoke, her mouth turning to a scowl. She tried to tug her hand away, but he had a good grasp on it. He was used to her fighting mode, he must have known she'd want to pull away.
She turned to look at him, a betrayed fire in her eyes. "Oh don't give me that bull. How pathetic you must think me for actually believing you. Don't give me any of that," Despite the child belonging to another woman, she was doing her best not to swear in front of him. "Everything I said yesterday was true, was from the heart. God, Zac...I-I almost told you I still love you, yesterday! I still love you after all you did was use me. So don't you dare give me your fake words with your fake scenarios!"
He told her he regretted giving her up and her eyes burned with anger as she twisted her wrist in his hand. "Stop it! Just stop it! We agreed not to do this. Not to do us. And for the love of God, Zac! You're married with fucking kids! Stop rubbing it in my face that I'm not with you! That your children aren't ours! It was bad enough imagining it and now to know its true, only to have you try to spout lies in my face about how much you care about me but I'll never get to have you? It's bullshit! It's all bullshit! Let me the fuck go! Now and forever!"
Avery had tried not to swear but her anger had gotten to built up. She took her free hand and tried to pry her wrist free. She needed to get away, she could breathe, she saw red. The blonde needed a strong drink and a night to forget about these last two encounters. A night to forget Zachary Elwood.

Zac shifted Bray, he was getting restless and he was beginning to cry. Zac had to try and shush him, murmuring softly into the small child's ear. It was obvious Avery was getting worked up, and as she kept raising her voice, and her tone became harsher, Zac had to wince, having to feel every little bit of her hurt and anger bouncing around inside his own head. He deserved it though, he was the one who put her through this, made her feel this way. It was only fair, and rightly so, since Avery seemingly blamed everything on him.
"Fake words, when have I ever lied to you Avery? Bar that one time, since I did it for your own good anyway," Zac replied, trying to keep calm. "I would never lie to you without good purpose, you mean too much to me for me to be able to lie straight faced."
As Avery kept yelling though, Zac was taken aback. What on earth was she talking about? His children? His wife? Zac furrowed his brow, his tall stature frozen in time as he tried to think over what she just said. Then it finally clicked, as he felt into her emotions. She thought...oh. "Ree, I don't have a wife, or kids for that matter," Zac shifted Bray so that he was facing the blonde woman as he pinched the little guy's cheeks. "This is Brayden Phillip Elwood, my youngest brother. Mum had another three kids after I graduated, another girl and two boys, Coraline and Sye. I look after them for mum since she works so much these days. They practically are my kids I guess."
Avery tried to break free of his grip, but Zac held on, his large hand easy capturing her small one withing. "I would never want to have kids, or share another bed with a woman that wasn't you Avery Robin Appleman. Never in a million years had that thought ever crossed my mind." He kept his hazel eyes trained on her, trying to convey all his sincerity within them. He just wanted to stop the fighting, and the hate that she felt for him. They didn't have to go back to being what they once were, but even just reconciling and being friends would suit him.

Avery scoffed at his words, shaking her head. "Look at the good that did us. Well, you seem to be doing it perfectly fine right now!" She couldn't express the pain in her heart. She wanted to run away, hide from all the hurt in her soul. Zac was tearing her apart and he paid no mind to it. She never wanted to see him again, she just wanted...she wanted escape from his love.
Then he spoke again and her heart seemed to drop to her knees. He didn't have a wife? No kids? Then who was-? She could feel shock rush over her features as her eyes widened. His words were like a physical blow and she stumbled back from him, if he hadn't been holding her, she would fallen over. She felt sick to her stomach.
His mother had had three more children after they had broken up. Three siblings she had never met. Zac didn't have a family of his own yet. She felt tears start to fill her eyes as he continued to speak. Oh god. She was going to throw up. She felt awful, she had been so cruel. So mean.
"I would never want to have kids, or share another bed with a woman that wasn't you Avery Robin Appleman. Never in a million years had that thought ever crossed my mind."
She opened her mouth to speak and closed her jaw. She blinked a tear ran down her face. Zac stopped speaking and he looked at her. She felt her knees go weak when he looked at her. In an instant, she was pressed up against him, her hand on the back of his neck as she brought his lips to hers. When she had finished her kiss, she buried her face in his chest. "Zac. Zac. I'm so sorry. I'm so sorry."

Zac couldn't comment as Avery just threw his words back at him. He had done the wrong thing, he had been a young, naive boy who had run away because he had been afraid of something so pure. He had regretted it from that day, and every day since. How could Avery not see that this was hurting him? Cutting him up from the inside out?
As his eyes trained on her face, Zac watched as the reality hit her. She had misunderstood this entire time... God, Zac was so stupid of course it was obvious to mistake the toddle for his own, they looked alike, the age was right, it was an easy conclusion to come to. He had to hold her up as she seemingly went weak from shock and he let out a little chuckle. Typical Ree. At least now the misunderstanding was cleared up, maybe she wouldn't hate him as much as she could have if he were to have moved on.
Zac felt her emotions shift from confusion, realisation, sadness, shock then finally something he hadn't felt in a long time. He felt himself raise a brow at the feeling inside his head emitting from Avery, but before he could even process it there were lips against his own. There was that familiar spark, something ignited within him. Shifting Bray out of the way, with his free hand he placed it gently on that small waist, thumb stroking through the material.
"Well that was unexpected," Zac said with a chuckle as Avery finally finished their kiss, burying her face within the folds of his shirt. "You have nothing to be sorry for Ree, all a misunderstanding." He rubbed her shoulder to calm her, knowing she was probably having trouble processing this all and coming to terms with it. It wasn't like it was that big a deal, but something was happening within Avery that Zac could feel, but he had no idea as to what exactly it was. "All just a misunderstanding."
