Cairenn couldn’t believe what had happened just a few hours ago. She wiped a few stray tears off of her face. This was insane- he was dead. Kinsley Shacklebolt, the minister for magic, was dead and gone. And on her watch. She was ashamed. She didn’t deserve to be an Auror, her first real mission and she failed that badly. She didn’t even manage to catch anyone! She was so ashamed of herself. People had died on her watch and she wasn’t even fully qualified yet. She guessed that they were no longer in any doubt that there was a new war. Kids were going to be becoming auror’s left right and centre. There was going to be near constant death. She didn’t remember the last war. She was far too young when it ended, scarcely born. And here she was, ready for the war of her generation. She was afraid. She wasn’t old enough to deal with these things. She wanted to save the world when she entered auror training, but she didn’t realise just how much it needed saved. She knew that there was a huge chance that she wouldn’t survive to see the end of this war. What scared her more was that she was surprisingly ok with it. She wiped a few more tears from her face. She was the only one left in the office, she had some paper work left to do. The papers that said that she was finished with her training and was ready to be an auror. She signed everywhere necessary and started to go about filing the papers, every so often stopping to rid herself of a few more tears. She was so caught up in her work that she didn’t notice anyone enter the room. outfit

Zachary Elwood wouldn't have thought in a million years something like this could ever happen...how had they let this happen. Kingsley Shacklebolt, the Minister for Magic had just been assassinated...in the Ministry with aurors standing on guard. What had they done wrong? How could they have not sensed it earlier? They hadn't thought that the Dark Lord would come in on something like a speech, so they hadn't put in many charms or spells in prevention of disillusion charms or polyjuice potion or anything else that would have disguised people. For the Aurors to have failed like this...it didn't look good. The papers were going to have a field day with this.
Thankfully they had detained some of the death eaters, locking them up in holding cells to be interrogated by Aurors and, after that they would be carted to Azkaban for a nice long stay. With the Dark Lord out and about the security in Azkaban had been increased with more wizards on duty, and even aurors were going to be stationed out there now after this incident. They couldn't let another break out happen since the last time a Dark Lord had risen he had broken out some of the most notorious war criminals of the century. Thankfully though most of the old followers were far too old now to be of any use.
Sighing, Zac rolled his shoulders, hearing them pop with the pent up acid in the joints, relaxing slightly as they soothed his sore bones. Rubbing at his eyes, tired and doleful for the loss of his Minister who he had sworn to protect...and he had failed. Walking into the office he had expected it to be empty, most people had gone home to mourn after all. "Cairenn? What are you still doing here? You can go home you know, we've all been dismissed for the day," Zac said, walking towards the girl who was still sitting at her desk.
Giving her shoulder a squeeze as he saw her red eyes he gave her a small, sad smile of his own. "Take a break, you don't need to be doing all this work," he added quietly, his subordinate was obviously affected by what had happened and Zac was too. This was a big blow on all of them.

Cairenn was caught up in her own thoughts, her own depression. It was strange being in the office when it was empty. It was rarely empty. Aurors were always on the go, she was rarely the first in and this was the first time she had ever been the last out. People had gone to be with their families. She couldn’t exactly go be with her mam, she was back home in Ireland. It was at times like this Cairenn missed home. She wanted a hug from her mam, a good cup of tea and a slice of her mam’s brown bread. The whole world seemed to be going wrong but to Cairenn her Mam would still know what to do.
Cairenn jumped out of her skin when a voice sounded out in the officing, showing her that she wasn’t alone. She quickly jumped up from her desk, giving her eyes a quick wipe to make sure there weren’t any stray tears. She was an auror. She couldn’t cry, not even over this, the public were going to be looking to them to be strong. She listened as her boss, her role model asked her why she was still in the office that they had all been given the day off. He didn’t say it, but she knew it was to mourn. “I know,” She told him. “I just thought I’d use the time to keep up with the paper work. I’m trying to keep myself busy.” She told him.
She could see the look of pity on his face, it was probably obvious that she had been crying. She nodded when he told her to take a break, that she didn’t need to be doing all that work. The truth was she didn’t think that she could bare going home to a flat that she shared with strangers. She lived a lonely existence these days. She hadn’t seen too many of her Hogwarts friends recently and her couldn’t go home as often as she liked, as an auror you were always on call. She didn’t regret it, she just missed her family and their farm.
“You should probably take a break too.” She told Zac. “I know that you knew the minister, it must be quite the blow for you. The public are going to have a field day.” She put a hand to her face, sighing. Things were going to get crazy, and fast. Cairenn knew she should take this time to relax, it wouldn’t last long, but she just couldn’t. Her mind was going a mile a minute.

It was hard to be in the building, knowing full well that the Minister had died just downstairs. It wasn't all that pleasant to know that there had just been a murder in the building, one that they had let happen at that. Zac felt like shit, there was no other way to put his feelings into context other than shit. He felt like crying, like screaming in rage, punching a wall and beating the hell out of one Dark Lord. But that was impossible, not yet at least. The Magical Law Enforcement team had no clue as to where this new man claiming to be the Dark Lord was, or where he'd be hiding out, and the death eaters they had taken into custody weren't all that helpful either. They'd give in sooner or later, they had more than enough time on their hands now.
"Busy..." Zac murmured back, eying the stack of papers before Cairenn, knowing that with that sort of work load she'd be here for days which, while a good distraction wasn't all that healthy for her since she was here to 'keep herself busy'. At her comment that Zac should take a break he gave her a smile, guesturing to his desk where his coat was slung over the back of his chair. "Just here to grab this..." he said as he grabbed the large leather jacket, "and he was a good man, he understood by situation and helped me achieve what I have today."
Seeing as Cairenn wasn't going to leave any time soon, Zac had to do something to get her away from the office, being here was probably even worse than mourning elsewhere. "Would you like to come over for dinner? It's just me and my siblings," Zac offered, knowing that at least it'd get his team member away from the desk and, she might even enjoy herself a little. Zac just wanted to go home and get cuddles from his siblings, they always knew how to make him feel better. Always.
