Kendall was stressing, he didn't know what he should do. He was supposed to have been at the bar for a greater portion of the holidays but, due to his father's insistence he had been forced home under house arrest to attend stupid pureblood parties and social gatherings. He had to endure it all though, he was 'Kendall Yaxley' after all, the perfect son. Dallas hated it, he wished he could be free of his brother, much as he loved and missed his twin, he just wanted to be himself, he wanted to do what he liked instead of being confined to this persona that he was forced to play, like a puppet. Thankfully though, the vow he had been forced as a child still let some of 'Dallas' shine through sometimes, and this was seen through the fact he was currently wrapping up presents (or attempting to) at his apartment, finally free from his father's clutches and freed from house arrest at the Yaxley mansion. He wasn't sure if this was a good idea or not, but he had thought it would be a hit or miss sort of situation. He didn't know if the person's who these gifts were destined for would appreciate it, since Dal had no idea what to buy but he hoped they'd see the gesture behind it anyway. It was the feelings that counted, and Dal sort to see that Payton and Marisa know how important they were to him, Peyton was his only friend after all. Finishing up, Dal ran his fingers through his usual spiked up hair, the grey sweater he wore kept him warm in the chilly early morning weather. Apparating to his store, he hoped that Peyton would already be awake, since he would hate to disturb her. Knocking on the door which lead to the back room he had given her as a place to live he had to only wait. Once the door opened Kendal held the presents awkwardly in front of him, one far too large to even be held by a person, and the other a tiny package. "Uh, Merry Late Christmas...and Happy New Year," Ken said, in his usual cool tone, "I got you and Marisa these...also in thanks for looking after the shop when I was...indisposed." He waited till she took them before he mentally sighed in relief. "Hope they are to your...liking."

Peyton was exhausted. Kendall had left to spend the holidays with his father and she was left to manage the bar as well as tend to her beautiful little girl. She had never realized how much hard work went into keeping the bar together, she wondered how Kendall did it all. She had just risen and gotten herself and Marisa dressed, the bar was closed today and she could finally relax with her baby girl.
The brunette was bouncing Marisa on her lap when she heard a knock on the door. She set the little girl on the floor and kissed her forehead. "You better stay put, Missy." She warned, a twinkle in her eye as she walked to the door. She knew it could only be one person, Kendall. That was, unless Wyatt was now subject to surprise visits.
Her hand twisted the knob and she was surprised to see Ken's face peeking out from what looked like wrapped presents. It wasn't Kendall that surprised her, it was the gifts! She must have shown the confusion on her face for he quickly answered as to why he was there. A smile now replaced her confused look, she had his present sitting wrapped underneath her bed. Or rather, Marisa had made it for him but Peyton had drawn the squares beneath.
She quickly grabbed the presents and set them down on the bed, blinking in surprise. "Merry Christmas! Kendall, you really didn't have to, I mean, it's my job after all and-"
Marisa had lifted herself up and began to take wobbly steps toward Kendall. On Christmas she had taken her first steps and she was getting better at it by the day. She tripped and clutched onto Kendall's pant leg to keep her up until she steadied herself again. Then she stood and lifted her arms to him. "Uh! Uh!"
"She took her first steps on Christmas, she's so proud of herself."

Kendall...well Dallas, had been wanting to show Peyton and Marisa just how much they meant to him, they were -in some sense- like his family. It was only around his old friend and her daughter that Dallas ever made a peep, usually Ken just was...Ken. He was a cold hearted bastard who kept his face blank. That was how Yaxley Senior wanted it, he had to play the perfect little pureblood protegee. That was the facade of Kendall that Dallas was forced to take on, to become. He would forever be Kendall Yaxley to the world, but only to the woman before him did Dallas ever stir within, the real Dallas.
He could see her confusion, but he had a mental sigh of relief when she accepted them. He had been feeling nervous if she hadn't taken the presents, and had spent the time waiting outside the door to try and figure out a plab B escape if Peyton hadn't accepted the gifts. "You've been more than helpful with the store...and I wanted to thank you..." Actually truth be told he had seen Marisa cooing at the pictures of bears in one of her books one day, and Dallas knew that one day he'd have to get her a toy, just for her. Why shouldn't he have taken the perfect opportunity of a fake Christmas present? He had devised it perfectly, and Peyton would be none the wiser to Dallas's secret kindness.
As Marisa clutched onto his pants he secretly smiled internally, although on his face the slightest of twitches of the corners of his mouth was all that showed his amusement. Crouching down he scooped the toddler up into his strong embrace, brushing his nose against hers. "Hello Mari," he whispered above a breath, his eyes alighting with delight as she giggled at him. "She's gotten big," he commented nonchalantly, Kendall back into place quickly, "has she been speaking then? If I recall correctly, she had been forming coherent words before the holidays."

Her cheeks flushed when he said he had brought them to thank her for all her work. "You thank me every day by giving me a place to stay and a job to have." She dared to meet his eyes, "Marisa and I would have been out on the streets this year had it not been for you, Kendall. You really were our Christmas miracle and I'll never be able to thank you enough."
Peyton smiled as she watched Kendall interact with Marisa. The sight of them just made her heart full of happiness. She watched as her daughter planted a kiss on his cheek and then nuzzled her head into his neck. Pey leaned against the wall and pressed her lips together, Kendall would be the closest thing to a father figure that Marisa ever had. Sometimes she wished Alex would come back, just so his daughter would have a father in her life. "She has. She's been asking for you the entire time you've been gone."
The little girl looked around the room and her eyes landed on the presents. She looked up to Kendall with her big brown eyes and quietly pointed to the presents and to herself, silently asking if they were hers. Then, just to make sure that if they weren't they were now, she gave him another kiss on his cheek. "Mari wuvs Kay."

Kendall was not at all expressing his happiness on the outside, but his inner Dallas was practically ecstatic at this. He might have had to endure all those pointless parties and pleasantries he'd been forced to attend and endure through the Christmas and New Year break, and he was glad he could at least celebrate it with people that mattered to him, and that was Peyton and Marisa. This was what he wanted it to be like, and if Ken were still alive, Dallas would have had him here too, with his own family which he no doubt would have had by then. After all, Kendall had been betrothed since he was a child, but Dayton put the marriage off after the death of their eldest.
"That is nothing to thank me for," Kendall said softly, it was true. He had done it because he couldn't stand to see her practically living on the street at times, even Kendall would not have sat by and let that happen. "Anyone else would have done the same..." he added, meeting those familiar eyes. He had known Peyton since school, but they had never been as close as they were now. Maybe because they worked together almost daily, and he always came around to see Marisa, or that he was incredibly protective of the woman and her child, despite the fact that Kendall wasn't supposed to have these feelings, Dallas couldn't help feeling them.
"She has has she?" Kendall said softly, the arms which cradled the small child pulling her tighter against his chest. As Marisa pointed to the presents Kendall nodded, he hadn't been sure what to get so he got something that would both help Peyton, but also be fun for Marisa. So a teddy bear and a cute baby outfit sounded about right then. "Yes," he said as if she were asking silently if they were for her, "do you want to open them? And I love you too Marisa..." He walked over and placed the small girl down on the bed, letting her open them. He had made sure to charm them free of paper cuts, so there was no worries about her cutting herself on the paper.
"...Do you like them?" he asked hesitantly, feeling a little silly that he was asking a one year old her opinion on presents, but still he was nervous, he didn't know what to get them so he hoped this sufficed.

"They would have wanted to do the same, I'm not sure how many actually would have," she whispered. He met her eyes and she smiled at him. Peyton would have never thought they would be as close as they were, perhaps she even thought that their friendship would have always stayed low and hidden. It felt nice to be able to fully appreciate Kendall. It felt nice to, for once her in life, have someone she could depend on. He would always be there to take care of her and her daughter. Peyton could feel it. "We won't intrude much longer, I promise. I've been trying to save up money to get a few months rent for my old apartment."
She watched as he cradled Marisa and her heart swelled. She loved watching him interact with her daughter, it made her...happy. And Kendall made Marisa happy. It was as if a piece had been missing in their little life and Kendall had stepped in to fill the job until he no longer wanted it or she met someone to take care of them permanently. Why was it, when she was with the man, did she feel she wanted him to permanently keep his place? The thought was ridiculous. He offered to allow Marisa to open her presents and she looked to Peyton for confirmation. With a nod of her head, Marisa began to tear apart the wrapping paper on the presents Kendall had set in front of her.
At the excitement in Marisa's eyes as she looked at the giant teddy bear, she threw her arms around it and squealed. "Imma nawme hwim Kay!" She happily named her bear and snuggled him, her new clothes clenched in her little fist. "Mumma! Mumma! Wook!" She cried.
When Kendall asked if she liked the presents, Marisa grinned, her eyes beginning to get heavy with exhaustion although she fought against it with her excitement. "I wub ma Kay. An-An ma pweety cwofes."
"What do you tell, Kendall, Marisa?" Peyton asked the little girl as she moved the little girl and the bear closer into the bed. She placed a little blanket around Marisa as she murmured her "thank yous." It was only a matter of seconds before the girl was fast asleep, still clinging to her clothes and bear.
Peyton kissed her forehead gently before she motioned with Kendall to follow her outside. Once they exited, she closed the door quietly behind them and turned to the man. "Ken...you really didn't have to do any of that. But she really loves her presents," She leaned up and gently kissed his cheek. "Thank you, so much. You made her so happy."
