Skylar sat with his back against the stone wall of the castle, his shoulders sagged with tiredness. It was nearing night and Skylar could just see the past days of sunlight dip over the back of the hill, casting bright reds and oranges over the lush grounds of the famous school. Letting out a heavy sigh Sky rubbed his temples, the shirt he wore clung to his chest with sweat, having just been on a run to clear his thoughts.
The young Hufflepuff was in a dilemma, there was so much going on in his life he wasn't sure what to do anymore with himself. Not only was there the daunting realization that soon he'd be graduating and would be having to grow up but there was Al's the issue with all his friends in his life. James had confessed to him and had asked him out, Chase was ignoring his very existance and Noah...well Skylar was confused about him.
Noah Clarke had been his friend since their first induction into Hufflepuff, both boys having to room together meant they grew quite close over the years. It was only when Noah was dumped by Imogen was there any change in Sky's attitude towards his fellow Hufflepuff, and that was all because he kissed him. What on earth had that meant? Neither of them had said anything about it the next day, in fact they hadn't said a word about what had happened since. Because of that one kiss though Sky was a mess, he was confused and scared and he hated feeling like that.
At the sound of footsteps Sky lifted his gaze, squinting out in the darkness. "Who's there?"

James was more uppity than what he was the past few days, he was sure his crush for Sky would pass but he didn't want it to take over everything. Sighing, he forced a smile and tried to focus of something else. He thought back to Kable's wedding and how great it was to get out of school, even for just a little while. It would have been nice to bring a date to the wedding, but it was over and he had good time.
Sighing he shook the thought away, he still liked Sky, it was obvious to the Gryiffindor, but he wasn't going to broadcast it, espacially since Sky wasn't intrested in him. He had hung out with Bryon a little bit, it was good to get his mind back to where it is normally. Or so he thought until he saw up ahead, James looked at the Hufflepuff thinking he should just go the other way. But the was a Gryffindor, so with the bravey he did have he stepped up to Sky who heard him.
He grinned shyly with being caught, "Just me.. You alright?" James hoped that even though he had after the boy out a few weeks ago, Sky would treat him like a normal friend. "You seem..Jumpy."

Skylar hadn't expected a reply at all, it could have been anything from a couple sneaking out to go and snog to those daring little first years who'd try and take on the Forbidden Forest but when a familiar voice spoke out Skylar was surprised to see that it was James. It had been a while since he had spoken with the Gryffindor male last and he was wondering why the other male was out so late, it wasn't like people usually walked about when it was just about to be dinner.
"Hey James, why are you out here so late?" Skylar asked the Gryffindor male. He didn't know if it was going to be awkward between the two of them since he had no idea if James still felt that way about him, but Sky hoped it wouldn't be. He was selfish in his request to stay friends, it hadn't been fair to James but Skylar really didn't want to loose another friend.
Skylar laughed lightly as James commented that he looked jumpy. It wasn't exactly true but he was worried so he guessed he was looking a little worried. "I've just got a lot on my mind that's all," Sky replied as he looked to James, "please, sit down. I'd enjoy the company, distract me for a little while."

James couldn't help but grin a little at when Sky told him to stay, but was inwardly bummed that Sky wanted a distraction. He wanted to know what was wrong, so he grinned a smartassy grin, "You I know I was serious down at the pitch." James waited a tick, before smirking and continuing, "you really do look bloody gorgeous all frustrated, but you don't need to had the stress to impress me." James had planned on skipping dinner just to get some time alone, he had been trying to distract himself with people, but he wasn't going to object when Sky had asked him to stay.
James sat down across from Sky so he could look at him and talk, "I'll make you a deal, I'll tell you a secret of mine- that my family is the only to know about- and Bryon." He snorted, "And I must warn you! This is a big secret and must not be spoken about." James made a big deal, but made sure his voice and facial expressions were completely goofy and far fetched so that Sky knew James wasn't being serious. "In return! You must give me a hint of what is bothering you. Ok?"
Tilting his head, the Gryffindor didn't look away from Sky wanting to see what type of reaction he was going to draw from him. As much as James was bummed by the rejection, he did want to be there as a friend. The thought made James wonder, the friend zone was a girl thing, but was it for gay boys too? He mentally kicked himself for thinking about Sky like that once again, James had a crush. It would pass. It had to. Forcing a smile, he decided either way there really wasn't anything he could do.

Skylar knew that James was only trying to lighten the mood but since he mentioned what had happened down at the pitch and it just made Skylar's mood even worse internally, although he kept his smile on his face. Lately he hadn't found himself truly happy like he once had been, his thoughts were always plaguing him and he was constantly in a state of confusion, he had no idea what was going on with his own head anymore. "As always the gentleman," Skylar joked, "always know how to make a boy blush."
As James sat down Skylar was glad for the company, maybe if he could distract himself he could begin to feel better, even just a little and the Hufflepuff was sure his mood would at least lift for a little while. As James began to speak Skylar could tell the Gryffindor male was joking around as he laughed at the dark haired boy's antics. "Aha, well I'm curious as to this giant big secret of yours that I have no clue to," Skylar said with a laugh, "I'm afraid that my triffles won't be enough in exchange for your secret since my matters are rather trivial."
"But thanks James, really," Sky said with a smile, he was glad that he had a friend here, one that was cheering him up as well. "Lately stuff has been going on with a mate and his girlfriend -ex now though- and it's just put me in a bit of a...funk." Skylar shrugged though, he didn't want to really talk about it. "Nothing big though, not to worry."
Running his fingers through his hair, pushing it back from his eyes Sky turned to James, smiling. "Enough of me, how about you, how have you been?"

Licking his lips, James turned his mouth to the side before trying to think of what to say. He knew that he wasn't close enough to Sky for Sky to trust him all that much. Thinking about flirting with the Hufflepuff some more, he decided not to. Sky not being interested, was not just making James feel foolish, but every time it was made obvious that Sky wasn't interested it hit his pride pretty hard along with the crush he had for the boy. "Gentleman isn't quite the word," finally James spoke with an easy smile.
Not helping the grin, James raised an eyebrow, "You're upset because your friend is single? I'm not trying to pry or anything...okay Maybe a little. But why does that bother you so much that your out here...sulking? If you don't tell me, do know I will be extremely offended!" The Gryffindor joked. He wasn't the best person to be serious unless he was upset himself, but he didn't think that Sky had a problem with him being goofy right now. "Oh damn.. Well since you did give me a bit of a hint there I guess I have to tell you my secret now."
With a over dramatic sigh, "I have the biggest sugar tooth ever, I would do almost anything for a candy." Watching as Sky moved his hair, James would have comment on his gorgeous eyes, but he retrained from doing so, he didn't think Sky would appreciate him flirting all the time. "I've been alright, my best friend had a wedding a little while ago. Went to that stag... Almost brought a date, but it was pretty cool anyway, they're like family."

"Ah, I thought you Lions were supposed to be the kind and gentle of the houses?" Skylar joked as James said that gentleman wasn't the word to describe him. Sky was glad that he could still speak to James like this, he was nice and sweet and that was what the Hufflepuff male wanted, someone whom he could go to without the fear of being discarded like he had been with Chase.
Chase had not only disregarded their friendship, but also the Slytherin seemed to think that Sky had chosen Noah over him in their friendship which was far from the truth, Sky wanted to just be friends with both of the males, even if they did hate each other. All over a stinking girl, Sky had to bitterly wonder what was so special about Imogen anyway...wait, why was he bitter about it? He shouldn't be...really. That kiss had meant nothing, it had just been Noah trying to let off some steam, nothing more and nothing less.
"Well...you could say that he may have...kissed me and it got me in a mess, we've been friends since day one, we've been living in the same dorm room for the past seven years for Christ sake then all of a sudden he springs that on me and I...I just don't know," Sky said with a sigh, hanging his head between his knees, the feelings in his chest only confusing him. What was Noah to him?
Hearing James talk about his 'secret' though had Sky lifting his head, raising a brow to his friend. "Sugar tooth? Really? Well at least now I know what to get you for a Christmas Present, chocolates then?" Sky joked. "Oh that's awesome, was it fun? I love weddings, they're always a blast," Sky asked, wondering who this friend of James' was.

James snorted with a grin, “I don’t know, I thought so at first too. But then I met this Hufflepuff who definitely gives me a run for my money the gentle cute stuff.” James was happy that Sky was okay talking with him, and didn’t feel awkward because of James’s feelings towards him. Though, James noted Sky may think that James got over it too. The Gryffindor wasn’t about to correct him if it meant he could still talk to Sky.
Looking the boy across for him, he couldn’t help but stay smiling. It was more of a Slytherin thing to hide all emotions, and seeing Sky isn’t was the hardest thing ever to tell he was stressing about something. James, himself wasn’t pretty open about what was wrong when he was upset, but he it was obvious when he was. Right now though, the Gryffindor was pretty happy to skip dinner.
James froze, hearing that someone else got to kiss Sky. Honestly he hated that thought more than Sky not being open about liking guys, because it showed he just wasn’t interested in James. He nodded looking down to his feet, and then looking away at the sky which was darkening. “He kissed you.” James paused looking back to Sky, “so what are you going to do? Is… Are you into turning to more or is he?” The Gryffindor tried showing he was more interested in helping Sky in talking about it, even though he beyond jealous and even more for so, pissed the hell of. How in the hell could he compete with the best friend?
“The wedding was alright, Kable is like the big brother I’ve never had. Lucky shit he is too, Rose..his wife, is awesome and they have the most beautiful little girl I’ve ever seen.” It was a sore spot for James talking about family, since he didn’t have one. Being adopted never really settled well with him, since he didn’t get adopted until he was older. “It was fun.” Would have been better with a date… “If you buy me chocolate, I think I’ll just love you forever.” James said sticking his tongue out.

Skylar merely chuckled and lightly punched James as he spoke about giving him a run for his money about being nice, Skylar wanted to be nice to everyone otherwise there really wasn't much point in life after all. He liked being polite and helping others, there wasn't anyone that Sky would say he hated or even disliked as a person, he may disagree or dislike things that people do and it may reflect on them as a person but Sky didn't hate them for it, hate was a strong word after all.
Skylar knew it wasn't exactly the nicest thing to talk about a guy kissing you to a boy you turned down but he really had no one else to talk to. No one knew about the bisexual thing, only James and Chase, hell Noah didn't even know. He may have an idea about it but Sky had never verbally outed his sexuality to the male. "I...I really don't know what's going to happen, we haven't really talked all that much after all, I guess I've been trying to avoid him to sort out all...this," Sky guested to himself, feeling rather pathetic in that moment. He had no idea what the hell was going on with him, his emotions were all array and his mind was running in circles about it all and it was only giving him a headache. Resting his head against his knees he let out a sigh, "I just don't know what to do..."
Skylar smiled as James spoke about Kable, he sounded like a good man and someone that James seemed to look up to. "He sounds like he'd be awesome," Skylar said as looked out at the setting sun, the red which coated the sky made the Black Lake shine crimson, almost eerie as the ripples of movement disturbed the mirror image of the sky. "Well now I know how to enslave you forever now, I'll just have to keep buying you chocolates." Sky laughed as James stuck out his tongue at him, provoking Sky to do the same, sticking out his own tongue to the Gryffindor male.

James smiled when Sky punched him, and it moved with it. The Gryffindor really did like being able to hang out with Sky without him feeling awkward. Looking at his feet, he just wanted to let feeling keep on going. James didn't want the night to end, he may have a just a crush on Sky but he knew that his feelings for him were growing. Looking back to the Hufflepuff, meeting his eyes he wished that he hadn't asked him out before even more. If James had waited he might have had a better chance later on after Sky figured out if he liked Noah or not. James couldn't help but hope that Sky's confusion for former Hufflepuff would fade soon.
Nodding, he bit his lips together biting back from saying something he would regret. Honestly he didn't want to snap, but he could feel it coming up. Looking at Sky, James found himself searching for a response that he wasn't sure how to give. Sighing, he looked back to the darkening sky, before looking back to the Hufflepuff. "Did you want it to turn into more? You should talk to him and find out what to see if you guys can come to a... to a understanding." James tried saying things that was the right thing to say, eve if he didn't feel what he was saying. "First kiss with a guy, Sky?" He asked with a weak smirk and a wink. James regretted asking as soon as the words left his mouth, he knew he was setting himself up for irrtation.
Titling his head a little, James wanted to smile at how adorable Sky looked. Let out a a breath through his nose, he felt his smile downing. It was hard keeping it up with conversation going the way it was. "Just do what you think would make you happy. If it doesn't work out, then...there's other mermaids eh, mermen in the sea." Like me.
"Yeah, Kable...He's cool." James found himself grinned again at the joke about his sweet tooth. Smirking, he looked at the Hufflepuff, "If you asking really nicely, I might be your slave for free." James winked at him, even though he knew it was bad timing to flirt with the other male.
