Skylar sat on the ledge of the Astronomy Tower, his legs dangling over the side as the wind whipped at his hair. It was well past midnight and the Hufflepuff teen had snuck out of the dorms to get some fresh air. He had been having trouble sleeping, ever since he had returned from the Christmas holidays he had been wondering how he could tell his friends about what had transpired over his few weeks home.
The blonde haired male had been hanging out at the local park which some of the neighbor hood kids when his old friend from primary had brought along a mate of his from his high school. As much as Sky would like to say it was a whole eyes meeting and a spark ignites, it wasn't. But there was certainly a level of attraction which he had felt for the green eyed boy. Ben had been his name, and over the next week Skylar had found himself spending more and more time with the handsome male. Nothing had happened between him and Ben but it had been close, something was there but neither male had persuaded it, so it had ended with them just being mates.
It had been a shocking fact for the Hufflepuff who had only ever had interest in girls previously, to suddenly find men attractive made him wonder when he had begun to. Suddenly coming to the realization that you were bisexual is not something that Skylar had expected his holidays to contain, but it had and now he had to come to terms with it and also tell his best mates. How would they take it? Would they recoil in disgust or call him names? Skylar would be crushed if they had begun to hate him because he had begun to be attracted to the same sex.
Sighing to himself, Sky ran his fingers through his fringe, he swung his legs back and forth, the heels of his shoes hitting the stone of the castle. He heard the door creak as he spun his head around to see who it was, calling out, "Hello?"

Chase had stayed up extremely late doing an essay. It was currently 8 pages long, front and back of pure brilliance. It was also going to be handed in a week earlier than anybody else had even started it. He grinned, this was going to make his professor love him. Of course they all already did, he was an excellent student, he had to be to get head boy which is exactly what he had wanted. Head of the school? It was the start to a successful life. When he finished he realised he was way too awake to go to bed, his brain was still reeling from all the writing he had done.
He decided a walk in the cool night air would do him great. He loved the fact that as head boy he could get away with anything. If a teacher saw him he could say he had been patrolling the halls, in fact they probably wouldn't even ask him. He had made the perfect image for himself with the teachers, they all loved him as he was a star student. Other students hated him for the fact he really wasn't that great of a guy. He just managed to smile at the teacher and hand all his work in at a high standard and early.
He made his way from the dungeons all the way to the Astronomy which he hadn't been expecting to do. He had planned a small stroll, not a climb of the entire school. He didn't mind however, the sky was clear so the view would be amazing. He made it to the top of the tower and opened the door. He was surprised to hear someone say hello but he recognized the voice immediately and grinned. The one person he would actually stay up here for.
"Skylar, what are you doing up here?" He asked, a grin on his face.

"Oh hey Chase," Skylar said in slight relief as he noticed his friend. If it had been a professor he would have been screwed, even a prefect, but Chase wouldn't tell him off for being up here so late, hell this was where they usually chilled out. "No reason, just up here to get away from the dorms, get some clear air into the lungs," Skylar said with a slight grin towards his mate. Even though Chase was Head Boy, the male wouldn't deduct points from him, well Skylar assumed he wouldn't anyway.
Sky and Chase, despite their different houses were great friends. They had met on the train in their first year and while they had been slightly awkward, over the train ride had begun to chat although it had taken some prodding and nagging on Sky's part to get Chase to respond to him. Sky was the joking type, so he had found it easiest to make Chase laugh and he enjoyed seeing his friend smile, it was rare for others to see but Sky got to see it all the time and that made him slightly smug. Girls were always fawning over Chase, so Sky got the back end of a lot of their glares whenever he was with Chase, some seemed to think he was just an eye sore but he never took it to heart. He was the class clown after all, he just got along with everyone.
"What are you doing up here Mr Head Boy? I thought you would be in bed like the good little kid you are," Skylar said jokingly, patting the part of the ledge beside him for his best friend. He wondered if he should tell Chase about his...revelation. Sky feared rejection from his friend, and he had to push the thought of coming out away from his mind, he wasn't going to spoil a good hang out with his mate with something so...shocking.

Chase felt slightly relieved to see Skylar, he hadn't seen the boy much since the Christmas holidays and that was a long time to not spend with him. The boy had always seemed to have something on his mind and at first Chase had thought he was trying to avoid him. Of course he had realised how stupid that was. Skylar wouldn't do that to him, he knew most of his background, most of his history. If he was going to leave he would at least tell Chase why.
"Sounds like a legit reason." He said sarcastically. It was way too late for someone to just be getting some air though that was exactly what he was doing. He just knew Skylar, something must be bothering him.
Chase decided not to ask him about it yet, instead he just sat next him, letting his legs dangle out. He had been right about the view, it was beautiful and so calm. He found himself enjoying it more than he thought he would. He would never admit to finding something so beautiful. It would wreck his image. When Skylar spoke he didn't bother turning to face him though a smirk graced his lips.
"Skylar, since when have I ever been good?" He asked in amusement. Good was not a word he would expect anyone other than his mother and teachers to call him. "I just finished an essay for muggle studies and thought I'd go for a walk and relax before heading to bed." He explained.

"Hey! Don't go questioning me, woman!" Skylar said loudly his voice serious although the mirth which was reflected in his eyes and the lopsided grin on his face told the other male of his amusement. What Skylar hoped though was that his friend would not see the slight strain to keep the grin there, even if he was happy in that moment his mind was still weighted with the fact that he had to tell Chase.
He would have to tell him, otherwise if he found out some other way his friend would probably be upset, and Skylar knew he could trust Chase with his life. It was his fear of rejection that kept him from telling Chase his secret. Skylar and Chase were the best of friends, he knew things about the Slytherin he was sure no one even had a clue about. It was why he knew that Chase would want to know something as important as...that.
"You playing the bad boy role now are you? Since when has my cute Chasey been the boy your parents warned you about?" Sky teased, slinging an arm around his friends shoulders as he ruffled his curly hair. Skylar loved Chase's hair, no matter how weird that sounded. It was awesome, so curly and bouncy, it was something the Hufflepuff took great pleasure in teasing his mate for.
"Right, you and your nerdy ways, I'm surprised you weren't placed in Ravenclaw," Skylar said with a roll of his eyes. He had dropped muggle studies in favor of a spare for his studies. It was a nice way to have a free period to just relax to work on school work, lord knew he needed it with his studying skills and level of concentration.

Chase rolled his eyes at Skylar's antics. The boy was a serious drama queen. He was the class clown and Chase knew he loved every second of it. He loved making people laugh and Chase was thankful for that because otherwise he never would of been able to win him over on the train ride. He turned to look at him and gave him a look he received often.
"I'm not a woman Sky." He said in a deadpan voice though his eyes gave him away.
He was about to look away when he realised something was off about his friend's face. Something wasn't right about his smile... it seemed... forced? That was unlike Skylar, he never had to force humor. Chase frowned, something really was bothering his best mate. He also knew that Sky was hiding it from him as he continued on like normal, his arm going around Chase's neck.
"I've always been the bad boy. The arrogant boy, the stuck-up boy, the jerk, the asshole, the dickhead. Whatever you want to call me I've probably been it. Though I'm not cute." He added on the end with a slight glare in his friend direction. He hated being called cute.
He chuckled however when Sky called him a nerd. He wasn't going to deny it, he could be seen was one. He was definitely smart enough to be classified as a nerd and he worked hard enough but it was to further himself, not just because he could.
"I'm too much of an ass to be put in Ravenclaw." He stated with a smirk. It was true, both he and Sky knew it.

"Or are you?" Sky said with a raised brow and a faked shocked expression, "who knows, I mean maybe you just stuff it down there with socks?" Skylar was glad Chase was here, maybe he could get him to make him forget, help him push past all that. It wasn't like Chase could see he was forcing his smile now could he?
"Ahh, you may be all that Chasey my love but I dearly love you all the same," Skylar said, batting his eyelashes at his friend. He could joke around like this at this moment because Chase didn't know. If his Slytherin friend knew that there was a possibility that Sky liked blokes then he certainly couldn't want Sky joking like this with him. Sky would never think of Chase in that way, Chase was his best mate. Sure, he knew his friend was good looking but that didn't mean he was attracted to the male. Heavens no, it was friendship and that's it, but Chase might not take it that way once he found out...
The Hufflepuff male just laughed at his friends statement. It was true, Chase was too much of an ass to be in with the braniacs. "Too true," Skylar added with a grin, "probably shake the tree too much for the Raven's liking."

Chase looked at Sky with a raised eyebrow. Was he serious? No, that was a stupid question, Sky was hardly ever serious. He however, did not take well to his manhood being insulted. He was a normal 18 year old guy after all.
"Sky I will drop my pants right now and prove that there are no socks down there." He said, his voice serious though he had a large smirk on his face. he probably would to if Sky pushed him. He was comfortable in front of Sky, plus he had nothing to hide or be ashamed of.
Then when Sky started getting all lovey he chuckled and pushed him away. He secretly loved the fact however that Sky accepted him for all his faults. He had seen him be a dickhead, he had seen him push others out of the way so he could get to the top but he was still his best friend. He was sure numerous people would of questioned there friendship to him and he would love to hear Sky's response because he knew he would defend him.
"And you call me the girl." He said under his breath though it was loud enough for Sky to hear.
His next comment about disturbing the peace in Ravenclaw made him laugh. It was true. He would of been way too disruptive to handle them. They would if all hated him, not that he would of cared but he felt much more at home in Slytherin, people expected him to be a dick.
"You've got that right." He said before biting his lip and thinking. He really should ask Sky what was bothering him. He would of pounced on the first sign of a problem with Chase so Chase should do the same. "Sky... what's up?' He asked, all humor gone from his face and voice.

Skylar laughed at the expression on Chase's face, it was priceless really. "Hey now Chase, head boy shouldn't be dropping his pants in public," Sky said with his hands raised, his lips curled upwards, "indecent exposure in public is a serious crime you know, the Ministry will have you locked up for that one." With a wink he nudged the male beside him, "besides it's not like it's something I haven't seen before."
Skylar loved the fact that he was the only one who could be so joking with Chase, he really was too serious for other people to ever approach the Slytherin boy, and only Sky seemed to be the one whom Chase let close enough to be friends with. "Well I must say we all must be girls then my dear fellow," Skylar said with a fake posh accent, giving a hearty chuckle as if were some old man wearing a manacle who came from the 1800's. "Jolly good, my fair lady," said the Hufflepuff male who continued with his antics, even pretending to tip a invisible top hat at Chase.
When he heard Chase speak he heard the serious tone in his voice and suddenly all their previous joking and lightheartedness was gone and only tenseness remained. He had been hoping, praying that Chase wouldn't bring up his current facade he was holding, it wasn't something he really was sure he was ready to admit yet. "Nothing Chase, don't worry about it," Skylar said, casting his eyes away from his friend as he looked down at the grounds below, trying to avoid the Slytherin's gaze.

Chase had to laugh when Sky spoke of indecent exposure. He shook his head as his chuckles wafted into the dark night. Sky really was the only one who could make him laugh like that, not even his mother or sister could do the task. He rolled his eyes as the boy started pretending to be posh. hardly, Skylar was one of the least posh boys he knew. And he knew posh boys. He nudged the boy with his shoulder until the humor left them completely.
He could feel Sky tense up and he suddenly was looking anywhere but at Chase. Chase frowned and studied his best friend. Did he seriously tell him not to worry about it? Did he not know him at all? He was going to worry about it until Sky either died or told him. He keep his gaze on Sky, hoping it would unnerve him. Since when did they keep things from each other?
"Sky you can't be serious? You're asking me not to worry because you won't tell me something? You might as well tell me now Sky." He said truthfully.

This was the conversation that Skylar had been fearing to have. Chase would hate him, Skylar knew it. This was the type of thing you kept as a secret, it was why it was called hiding in the closet. If there was a broom closet nearby Skylar would gladly be hiding in there literally, he knew how stubborn Chase was, he'd keep pestering him until he told. His Slytherin friend was going to prod and poke until he got the truth from Skylar and the Hufflepuff knew he couldn't hide it forever no matter how much he wanted to.
"It's...it's really nothing Chasey," Skylar said, keeping his eyes on his shoes. The breeze blew his hair array and he wondered how he was going to get out of this one. It wasn't something he could dodge forever. "You'll hate me if I tell you..."
Skylar risked looking at his friend, his eyes pleading for him to stop. He didn't want to loose Chase, the male was far too big a part of his life and ever since childhood they had been together as best mates. If he were to leave him because of Skylar's preferences, then Sky was sure he'd be far too lonely to even want to go out. He was naturally a social person but it was always different with Chase. They knew each other like brothers, they knew everything about each other's pasts and future dreams, but Sky's realization the past holidays made him wonder whether Chase would push him away because of it.

Chase could sense this was something serious. He could tell by how tense Sky was and the fact he truly was trying to hide something from him. They hid nothing from each other! He help his breath slightly as Sky spoke. Nothing? Was he serious? He was really starting to panic. Was Sky going to leave him? Was he dying? Had their whole friendship been a lie? Chase's mind leaped to all the worst case scenarios and he had trouble keeping his breathing even. When Sky said he would hate him that only made it worse.
"Sky.. Please tell me." He said, his voice slightly shaky.
Chase hadn't felt this vulnerable since he was 5. It was ridiculous and stupid but Sky literally meant the world to him, it was cheesy and corny but he was his best friend, his brother, he couldn't lose him. Not after everything else in his life. If Sky left Chase he would be alone. His mother and sister didn't count. When he saw Sky's expression he only returned it.
"I could never hate you Chase." He whispered back.

What was he supposed to do in this situation? Chase nearly looked worse as Skylar was sure he was looking. He knew that his silence and reluctance to say anything was making his friend worry unnecessarily but it was taking a lot out of Skylar to even hide it. He knew he would need courage to say even the words, he had never uttered it aloud before. Even when he had been with Ben all those times just laying on the ground staring at the stars at night neither said anything, neither wanted to take that next step.
That was how Skylar was feeling right now, except this was admitting he was bisexual. "Chase...I..." Skylar gulped, biting his lip in nervousness. How was he supposed to say something like this. "I..." Skylar was chocking up on his own words, he couldn't begin to formulate what he needed to say, his tongue just felt heavy in his mouth as it suddenly felt too cold. Wrapping his arms around himself he looked away from Chase, ignoring the tears which were threatening to spill over at Chase's words. "I know..." he barely managed out over a whisper.
Biting his lip, Skylar steeled himself. He couldn't put Chase through so much worry, it was selfish on his behalf and it pained him to see his friend so upset. "Chase please don't hate me...please," Skylar begged, turning to stare at Chase with tears pooling in his eyes. It was taking every ounce of determination and courage to say what he was about to say and Skylar took a deep breath, trying to calm his pounding heart. "Chase...I...Ilikeblokes." He rushed over the last part, hoping Chase would understand what he had said, he didn't think he could say it again.

Every second was torture to Chase as he waited and waited for an answer from Sky. What was wrong? He tried to numb his brain, ready for the worst. His face went from so much emotion to none because he knew if this was going to hurt him he wasn't going to let Sky see it. He watched as Sky looked away and he knew that this was something terribly wrong. He couldn't think of anything that would cause Chase to hate him. He waited anxiously and when he turned to look at him he saw the tears in Sky's eyes.
He begged Chase one last time not to hate him then Chase held his breath, waiting for it. Suddenly words were being thrown at him fast. It took him a few seconds to process what he said. He then slid away from Sky and walked a safe distance from any windows where he could fall out before he burst out laughing. That was it? That was the big problem? Sky was gay? He laughed some more, clutching his sides as tears streamed down his face, half from the fact he found it funny Sky thought he would hate him and half from relief that that was it.
"Sky... you.... are.... such.... an.... idiot!" He said between laughter before he calmed himself slightly and took a few deep breaths. "I couldn't give a rats ass if you were asexual Sky. The fact that you're gay isn't going to bother me. Fuck I thought you were dying." He said as he grinned over at his best friend.

Skylar waited, holding his breath to see Chase's reaction. Would he tell him to get out of his life, to never speak to him again, that they weren't friends anymore. Those scenarios ran through his head and the longer Chase stayed silent the worse those thoughts pushed through to Skylar's worst fears. Chase hated him. That statement itself made him want to cry, Chase was his brother in all but blood. Loosing him would be much too hard for him to handle.
When Chase walked away from him Skylar looked down, tears dropping. This was the end to their friendship. All because of him. Then the sound of laughter reached his ears and he jerked his head up sharply, staring wide eyed at Chase who was literally clutching his side in stitches of laughter. "Wha-," Sky said, confusion written all over his face. Why on earth was Chase laughing, was he laughing at him in pity? Or anger? Skylar had no idea what was going on.
"You...you don't care that I like blokes?" Sky breathed out, tear marks on his cheeks now as he stared in wonder at Chase. Was he really ok with this? "You don't hate me?" The Hufflepuff had been so sure that everyone would hate him for suddenly finding other guys attractive. At the whole dying thing Sky let a watery smile grace his lips, shaking his head in amusement. "Sorry to disappoint but I'm not dying, nor will I be any day soon. And I'm not gay it's more bisexual than anything. Bat for both teams now," Skylar explained softly, wiping his tears away with the back of his hand.
