Kielle sat on the couch, her legs stretching out beneath the dark blue blanket that she had stolen from Ethan's room. She hummed quietly to herself as she tapped her pencil on a copy of the muggle newspaper in her hands, trying to figure out the crossword puzzle on the page. Her blonde hair was up in a messy bun and her glasses were on her face, falling slightly at she scrunched her nose, stuck on the puzzle. "Seven down: A Tibetan herd." She stared down at the puzzle, nearly hoping that it would solve itself. "Tibetan herd...Tibetan herd...Tibetan...herd...YAKS!" She quickly scribbled down the answer onto the paper and smiled as she went back to solving the puzzles. Her concentration was broken when she heard the door opening and she looked up, smiling at her roommate and childhood friend. "You're home late tonight, eh?" She lifted the sleeve of her cardigan to look at her watch, "it's 9:45. Nearly ten! What's the big story tonight?"Kielle set down her crossword and folded up the blanket, making a remind to put it back in Ethan's room later. "I was holding off on dinner until you got home. Didn't want you to have to re-heat something."

Ethan had been working on a story at work that nearly consumed him, though it really would not have been interesting to anyone else. There had been juggles working off the coast of the Irish see to try and find what they thought was a new type of coral, hidden just under the surface of the water. But Ethan had done his research and examined the ocean. He found it to be the work of mermaids and water nymphs, trying to mess with the muggles in their own sick brand of humor. He didn't find it very funny. And his editor didn't find it very interesting. Ethan had even got out there in the cold tonight to do more hands-on research, which was why his clothing still smelled of the sea, but his editor had told him to lay off the story as it was "boring". Ethan didn't think it was boring, but he wasn't going to fight the issue. He had gotten a few days to go out to the beach, and he'd gotten paid for it. It was no big deal to him.
When he walked inside the flat, he wasn't surprised to see that Kielle was working on another puzzle. She liked to stretch her brain that way, and he in turn liked calling her a nerd and making fun of her for it. They had this comfortable push and pull between them and he liked it that way. He tossed his jacket over a chair and slipped his shoes off, his face turning into an easy smile.
"You didn't have to wait on dinner for me, Kie. You know I'll eat whatever is in front of my face."
He sat beside her and looked down at the blanket that covered her body and he took it from her, covering his own legs with it. "You are a thief, you know that? And since you were wondering, there is no story now. There was one about the mermaids in the Irish Sea, but my editor thought it was shit. What's new with you? Other than stealing my stuff. Wait, that isn't new," he added with a nudge to her side.
