Katy looked up at the newspaper slammed on her desk. She hated looking at the Prophet. It just reminded her about how her children were still missing and how much she missed them. She gently pushed the paper away and continued to work on case files diligently, just wanting to get home as fast as she possibly could.
”When where you gonna tell me that Don was the new Minister, Katy?! Married to the Minister, goodness! Your kiddos will be found in absolutely no time now!”
Katy rose her head, confusion written on her face as she started to speak. She pushed her hair away from her face and glanced at the newspaper again, her eyes catching the headline. OUR HERO: Wizarding World Announces Donovan Maddix as Minister of Magic! The words made Katy choke on her own saliva as her eyes widened in shock. She pounded on her chest, struggling to breathe. Her husband? Donovan Maddix? He was the Minister? She laughed in disbelief. She had told him before Dominic had been given the position that he rightly deserved it. Everyone who knew him thought so. And now here she sat, Katy Maddix, married to the Minister of Magic.
For the first time in months, Katy smiled. She stood from her desk and she shrugged off her white lab coat. ”Ask Jay to cover me, he’ll understand.” She pulled on her coat and wrapped her scarf around her neck before grabbing her wand. She left the hospital quickly, making her way to the Ministry where she was immediately taken to the Minister’s Office. She opened the door and looked around the empty room, walking to the desk and smiling at the pictures on her desk. There was their wedding picture, Will in Don’s arms. In another, Don kissing Katy’s huge belly, Will grinning. Beth and Jay. Jenna and Katy. Happy memories. She fluffed her hair up and laid on the desk, propping her head up in her hand, watching the door and hiking her dress up ever so slightly. When the door opened and her husband appeared, she smiled.
”I figured I’d be the first to welcome you to your new office, Minister of Magic. I saw the papers!” She grinned happily, a true smile. The ones that Don never saw anymore for she had very little reason.

Donovan had been surprised to be informed that on the vote within the Ministry, he had been placed as the temporary Minister of Magic during this crisis that was affecting the magical world. He hadn't been expecting it, there were people far more suited to the job than he, but no, he had been appointed the title and had been moved floors. While he was Minister now, he was still going to be doing his duties as an Unspeakable, especially as a publicity stunt. The papers would love to put their front page as the Minister who fights along side his people, defeating the darkness.
Don ran a hand through his hair, sighing heavily. It was a burden to take this role, especially with everything else which was happening within his life. His children were still missing, there had been whispers of Charles Black but nothing substantial. Then with more and more attacks occurring within the streets of magical London, and sometimes even spilling into Muggle London the ministry was on high alert. There was a cry for more aurors, people were being trained heavily and speedily, trying to ready them for the coming battles.
Walking into his new office, Don shed his robe, throwing it over the back of the couch situated near the door, unaware of the other's presence in the room. Looking to his desk his eyes widened at the sight. There was his beautiful wife, sprawled out on the desk, dress up around her ass and her eyes playful. "Katy...what on earth?" Don managed out. Shaking his head with a chuckle, "nevermind that, the news has already gotten into the papers? Damn and I thought I'd be able to have a moments peace."
Moving over to the desk, he loosened his tie, sitting on the corner as he rested a hand on the small of Katy's back, rubbing in small circles. "I don't like it in here, two of the best men have left this room to never return," his gruff voice resounded, his eyes trailing to the portrait of Kingsley which still hung against the wall. The man had been a bright light for the people, for he asked for no war nor was he ignorant about the world. He had wanted peace, and had found a way to make people listen to him. He had been Minister for such a long time...
How could Don ever be half the man that Kingsley was, and to do this job just as well and efficiently? It just wasn't possible.

Katy giggled when Don caught sight of her and moved so she was sitting on the desk. "I'm surprised you didn't catch on with the woman's coat, scarf and bag. But then again, you must always be sneaking in good looking women with your looks." She nodded, "I hadn't even seen in myself, another girl from work showed it to me. I probably wouldn't have figured it out until you told me!" He moved closer to her and she slid beside him, giving him a soft kiss on his lips before she rested her head on his shoulder. Her fingers intertwined with his hand and she took in the largeness of the room. The movements on her back soothed her and she felt her body relax, something it hadnt done in ages. Don spoke and she rubbed small circles into the back of his hand. "And here's a third great man, prepared to finish the previous projects as well as live out the dream as an amazing Minister." Her voice was soft as she spoke and she followed his eyes. Her hand rose and her placed it on his cheek. "Don, look at me,"Katy gazed deep into his eyes as she held his face between her hands. "Kingsley loved you. He knew you were destined for greatness and I truly believe that if there is some after-life, it's him choosing to put you into this position. He knows that nothing would drive you away from this position. He knew of your good heart, your beautifully created intentions for this world. Kingsley knew that if there was any man besides himself that could deal with the pressure of being Minister and still accomplish heroic things; it was you."She slipped off the desk and moved to stand in front of him, moving her hands to hold his, their wedding rings clinking together. "You are just what the world needs right now, Donovan Rylee Maddix. And Kingsley knew that better than anyone."Then she smiled, "Except perhaps me, I always knew you had it in you."

"Oh always, you know me I can never get those ladies to leave me alone," Don winked, playing along, "especially this one woman. She's always in my house, in my bed, talking with my kids. I mean, who does she think she is? Just waltzing into this old man's life and stealing his heart." He gave her a kiss, soft and tender before he pulled back with the usual dimpled grin, although it was strained with the bags under his eyes. He barely was sleeping these days, what with their beautiful children still missing, the war, and now being elected minister. Things were getting tough in the Maddix family, but they would pull through, together, like they always do.
Don frowned at the thought of being Minister, there were big shoes to fill for the role and he was hoping he'd be able to do the right thing for his country and the people that he now was protecting. With the new Dark Lord having revealed himself, and the rise in the number of death eater attacks and magical creature attacks, there is no wonder that the whole country was in chaos. It was a nightmare, and with his family problems as well the emotional and physical strain was taking it's toll on Don. He was going to have to sit down with a cup of coffee and just take a breather soon, otherwise he'd just crash from all of the stress.
As Katy held his face in her hands his eyes closed, instinctively to her touch. At her demand, his eyes locked with hers, green with brown as he listened to her speak. He loved Katy, with all his heart and at her words he felt a little bit of reassurance, just because it was coming from those lips. It was not something Don was confident with, but he knew he could do it, if he had Katy by his side. He could do anything as long as he had his wife, and his children. Now Don just needed to get his babies back from Charles Black and he'd be set. He just wanted to be happy, with his loved ones, and he couldn't rest till he could go home and be greeted at the door by Will with his big dimpled smile, Katy in the living room with Jenna in her lap, reading some book on healing or another. That was happiness, to him.
"Thanks Kitty Kat," he said softly, giving her nose a little peck as he wrapped his arms around her, pulling to him close, his head resting atop of hers. "I love you....always."

Katy laughed and smiled back at him. "Should I be worried this woman will come between my marriage? Or are we just going to be polyamourous now?" He kissed her and she sighed in relaxation. Her chest tightened when he mentioned their kids and her smile slowly faded into a frown. Her heart ached and her brown eyes filled up with tears as she looked at the ceiling, blinking them back when one escaped and rolled down her cheek.
Since her children's disappearance, Katy had been very distant. There hadnt been a night yet where she hadnt cried herself to sleep. Whether she was sober when she eventually fell asleep depended on if Don was coming home that night or not and if she could replenish the liquor cabinet before he noticed anything was missing.
After Katy's speech, she snuggled into him. Her eyes closed as she breathed in his comforting scent. "I love you too. For as long as we both shall live," she murmured. Her stomach churned for a second and she squeezed her eyes shut. Her hands gripped down a little tighter as her heart started to race. She thought about what she needed to so desperately tell Don and she hated herself for it. She hated herself.
She pulled away to look into his eyes and swallowed. "Don. There's something I need to tell you, it's impo-" she began before the door burst open.
"Sir, he's made contact. An owl just brought a letter. It's addressed to you this time." A man said, panting as he rushed to give the letter to Don. "Intel. says that they're sure it'll contain the location. That Black's gonna want a showdown. I can get the Aurours prepared, sir, if you want them to go in."

"Till the end of time," Don echoed, his head against Katy's. His heart was filled with love, but a part of it was missing, and it grew greater with each passing day that his children were not in his arms. He'd have to get them back, and soon. He wasn't sure how long he could keep Katy together just with his presence, because soon she'll be lost, even to him.
Don was already moving by the time one of the Aurors from downstairs had burst in through the door, his words immediately forcing all of his tiredness down as adrenaline kicked in. This was what he had been waiting for, for Charles Black to make the first move, and ultimately, he'd find him and he would end this all one way or another.
"I'm sorry baby, this will have to wait for another time." Turning to the Aurora, his leadership voice kicked in, deep and firm, ordering, "assemble only a troop of 20, get my usual squad together and tell them to pack everything, even potions just in case. Contact Mungos and make sure they'll have staff on standby, who knows where this thing will go down so I'll want all precautions taken."
Don walked back and picked up the cloak he had discarded earlier, swinging it back on as he taking the letter as his eyes scanned it over. His face was grim, and his eyes flickered to his wife. "I will get them back, I promise you that, even if I die trying."
With that, he walked briskly from the office, the other Auror following behind him, trying to keep up with his long strides. His face was set in a hard line, determination driving his very soul. He would have his children home by tonight.

Katy's heart nearly stopped at the Aurors words. She was off the desk and grabbing her belongings, her news completely forgotten. She began to get on her coat and scarf while Don spoke to the man. She watched him put on his cloak and she followed him. "Don. I'm coming with you. I'm getting my children back." She said to him seriously.
Then an Auror grabbed her and sat her back down in the office. He was trying to explain he had been ordered weeks ago by Don to detain her when this moment came. She fought against the hold the man had, yelling behind Don that he couldn't do this to her. That she had a right to go with him. She screamed through the closed office door and began to cry.
If Don failed, she would have nothing. She wouldn't have her husband nor her children. She couldn't be alone. Not again. Her fingers fell into her lap and her heart sank. She wouldn't be alone, not exactly. But she wouldn't be complete. She would never be complete without them.
An owl pecked at the window and she opened it. She read the note and looked at the clock, her heart racing in panic as she threw open the doors to the office. "IT'S A TRAP!" She screamed. "SOMEONE GET THEM OUT OF THERE. IT'S A TRAP. GET MY HUSBAND OUT OF THERE, GODDAMN IT! THEY ARE ALL GOING TO DIE. GET. THEM. OUT. "
She knew where her children were. She ran back to the office, scrawled a note and waved her wand, praying the spell would work and the note would get to her husband.
Think of where I am, Apperate and get the hell out of there. Come to me and lets get our children. -K
Then she sprinted out of the Ministry and into the open air before Apperating on the spot. Her world twisted and changed as she moved to her new location.
The stars were high in the clear sky and crickets played their song in the night. The full moon gave the only light in the property in the middle of no where. Not another house for miles upon miles.
In the nearly silent night: a baby wailing. She walked to the broken down two-story. Boards falling and the house looking abandoned. For it had been for years. She could feel herself shaking as she walked up the rotting wooden stairs. She walked to the old screen door and pulled it open before opening the wooden door.
Very low on the doorframe: faded pencil writing. "Katy - Age 2."
She stepped into the house and as the screen door creaked shut behind her, she heard another pop. Signaling another arriver. Her heart pounded. The home looked the same except it was in ruins, everything was broken, rotted, moldy or just dusty from disuse.
Footsteps following where her own had once been. The baby screaming louder.
Katy's hand touched the railing to go upstairs, the wood feeling like it would burn her hand from the painful memories. Her foot touched the first step when a hand grabbed her wrist and she turned to face her husband, shaking her head.
She would not go home. Her babies were here. And they needed her. She could only imagine what the horrible man had done to them as he had done to her.
Katy started to take another step up. Jenna was crying for her mother and her mother was here to take her and her big brother home.

Donovan had apparated with his team to the location that had been written in the letter from the infamous Charles Black. His face was pretty much on every wall in Magical London and greater areas, being hunted now, more so than ever for stealing his grandchildren, who happened to also be the Minister for Magic's children. It had created quite the uproar, and now it was escalating. Signalling his team to keep down, Don formed a water bubble in his hand, slowly letting it drip to the floor, oozing over it like a gel, moving outwards, feeling for anything. Don let his eyes fall closed, as he let his magic pulsate through the water, scanning for any signs of danger and life. There was no one in sight in the building, and Don soon let the water go, seeping into the carpets of the building as he opened his eyes.
"Okay team, we're in, we're out. Got it?" Don said quickly, voice hushed and low as his eyes blazed with all his determination and hate. He was going to get Charles Black, and he was going to snap his neck after a long and periodic set of torturous months of punishment. A equally determined 'yessir' was his reply and his nod of confirmation had the team pulling out their wands, and set low into starting position. Don lifted his hand, and signaled to two groups to move around the sides of the building and to take other entrances. The two groups nodded silently and set off. They were going to storm the place, and hopefully have the advantage of numbers.
Don lifted a hand to his face, before he quickly dropped it, charging forward into the building as he felt the others behind him. Running through the front doors, Don felt himself pass through magical wards, undetectable but still the shimmer of magic he felt rush over his skin and make his hairs stand on end. "Clear fucking bastard," Don muttered, before his eyes fell to the wall, and they widened. "Everyone! Get out! Now!" Don hollered, his eyes staring at the line of muggle grenades and dynamite which was strapped to all the walls lining the hallway they were in. His team quickly saw it too, and turned heel and ran.
He could hear the ticking of the timer, it was echoing in his ears, and as he turned on his heel he had to curse himself for not seeing it sooner. It was a trap. As he began to turn, his feet moving to finally catch up to a sprint, he could hear the ticking stop. Don could only try to make his muscles move faster.
Dammit.
The force of the explosion threw Don clean into the air, throwing him out into the street, rubble flying hazardously through the air. The bombs set off a chain reaction, and he could hear the building before them begin to crumple from the loss of the foundation structure. His ears were ringing, and he lifted his fingers to his ears to have them pull away coated in crimson. His face felt hot from the fire, and he could feel that there was fragmented glass from shattered windows piercing his body. But that pain didn't distract him. Don got up, and began to move around to his team, and although he couldn't hear his voice, he knew that they were all safe from their grim but thankfully alive faces. With a wave of his hand, his instructions barked of, "Mungos. All of ya'. Now." He watched them all dissapperate as he let out a sigh. How could he have been so damn stupid to have led them into a trap. And now, here he was, injured, bleeding and still no closer to finding Charles Black.
Gingerly fingering a protruding piece of glass from his side, Don grasped the sharp edge between two fingers, not caring he was slicing up the delicate skin on the pads of his hands, as he yanked it out with a grunt. He just had to hope he got it all out, and the large rip in his clothing and cloak were beginning to soak, the black turning even darker as more and more liquid seemed to pour from his wounds. Don took off his cloak, ripping it up as he tied a long strip around his abdomen where he had pulled the large glass piece from, tying it tightly with a wince. God this is going be a bitch to heal... and Katy's going to kill me...
At that moment, a piece of paper appeared before Don, in familiar handwriting. His eyes widened, and he quickly did as instructed, thinking of his wife, and his desperate need to get to her and protect her. How could she go alone in this, especially in her state! Don was not going to let anything happen to her, or their kids. Not on his watch. As he landed, he was at a house, dilapidated and broken, it looked uninhabited for many years. Walking the front steps slowly, careful to not make noise he walked in the front door, Don could hear a baby crying. Jenna Don let his mind take in her cries, and he so desperately wanted to run in and whisk his baby away, but knowing what had just happened to him and his team, this could well be another trap to get them.
Seeing Katy, her mind focused with that look on her face, Don moved forward, knowing he had to stop her. Protect her at least. Don reached out and grabbed her hand, his eyes catching hers in a silent plea. He wanted her to stop, to think for a moment. He shook his head at her as she shook hers. They were a stubborn pair, the two of them, but Don was not letting her win this time. This was life and death, and more importantly, the life of their children. "Kat..." Don began to say before he heard a cackle off to the right. He quickly turned, shoving Katy behind him as he raised his hands to form a ball of water in his palm, all in one fluid motion.
"Well, well, well, seems like my surprised failed to...well, surprise," Charles Black said with a smirk, the elderly man leaning against the wooden door frame of what looked to lead to a living room. Don had stared at that face more so than anyone else's recently, and to see it in the flesh... Don wanted to punch it till it wasn't even a face anymore. "Where are my children, Black?" Don said, his voice monotone and holding no emotion, but his eyes were pure loathing and hate. He was going to kill this man.
Black just stared back, that smirk still painting his lips. "Now can't be too hasty, the fun is only just beginning..."

Katy took steps up the wooden stairs slowly, trying not to bring any attention to herself as she went to rescue her babies. She was prepared for a fight, but she would not let her children get caught in the middle. She heard a small pop and gasped, whirling around and pointing her wand in the face of her husband. Her mind was exploding with emotions: anger, frustration, yearning but most of all, terror. Her father had put her through hell all of her life and it was time to take it back. She lowered her wand and started up the stairs again before Don’s hand caught hers. She darkened her gaze as tears filled her eyes. ”I will not leave them alone longer than they have. They need me. I’ll be damned if you stop me.”
He started to talk one second and the next she felt herself slammed against the wall behind Don. She knew that laugh. She knew it well. It had tormented her every day for the last twenty-three years. Her chest heaved as her heart raced. Adrenaline and fear raced through her veins. Katy gripped her wand tight in her hand as she pushed herself behind the wall and beside Don. ”I swear to God if you don’t tell me where they are I’ll-I’ll-” She struggled to think of words through her rage as the baby’s wailing got worse. Katy needed to get up there. She needed to hold her babies. Her eyes darted to the stairs before back to her father. She needed to keep a good head on her shoulders. If she didn’t, Don would get her out of there and she would never forgive herself. Then again...if Don knew...he wouldn’t let her be there at all.
”Your fun is over. Give me my kids.” Katy hissed. ”Give me my babies and I won’t have to kill you.”

Don let out a low growl. Damn his stubborn wife, and damn him for not having the heart to tell her to go home and wait for him there. He knew how much it meant to her to be here, to get their kids home, but he wasn't about to let her or their children be harmed. It would be even harder now because knowing that there was the lives of his loved ones at stake, Don would not even think to use his full power, for he always feared he'd loose control. Being an elemental was a powerful gift, but it came with the chance that one day, his emotions might take control and he'd loose all abilities he'd have over his power and hurt the people he cared about the most. "Damn-it Katy, you better be ready to fight your crazy ass father, because-" Don was saying, before he looked at his wife and saw her determination, and let out a sigh. "I'm going to regret not dragging your ass home..."
Don heard Katy try to threaten her father and it failed miserably, there was no conviction to her voice, no promise of pain or making him regret ever having taken their children. He could hear the crying worsen and his stomach dropped. All of his senses went into overdrive, as he was suddenly fully aware of everything around him, like it was all in the finest of details and qualities. Don seemed to sense even the specks of dust that floated through the gap between him and the crazed Charles Black. He knew what he had to do. Turning to his wife, his face set in a hard mask -his fighting face Will liked to call it whenever Don acted the baddie in their games- all Don said was, "go."
Turning to Charles, Don immediately let the ball of water in his hand fly, shooting out like an arrow head, the water forming into a sharpened edge as it shot forwards, piercing through the kidnappers wand hand as the force threw him backwards into the wall. Don advanced, not even thinking about his wand as his fists already began to lay into the man's head and stomach. He was going to make him pay for what he had done to his family...
