Jackson sat solemnly on the other side of the table. His hands were folded on the table but he couldn’t seem to meet her eyes. His throat felt thick with tears. He knew. This had been a long time coming, he had felt it long ago. Their connection had broken and yet he was still just so hopelessly and utterly in love with the girl in front of her. He knew this was coming. He knew from the beginning he would be jaded by the teenage girl in front of him, but however, as much as he wanted to, he couldn’t hate her.
He had known since the moment she looked at the other boy while Jackson was in the room. There was a light, a shine. The same shine he had in his eyes when he looked at Lucien. Lucien had that in her beautiful orbs when she looked at Layne Chambre. Those two teenagers were in love and who was he to deny that love?
They had not been in the café more than five minutes but the tension had been in the air as soon as he sat down and leaned in to kiss her hello. The look on her face, the sorrow radiating off of her, he knew. Oh God. Jackson knew. It was time to let the love of his life go. This wasn’t the first time a girl had broken his heart. So why did it hurt so much? Why did it kill him inside to know that he had to let her go?
He took a deep breath and he looked out the window to his right, watching as couples walked by together. He couldn’t help but wonder if Lucien wished she were with Layne at this moment instead of him.
The thought nearly ripped his heart in two. He closed his eyes as he collected his thoughts and his emotions. With a heavy head, he turned to look at her, an overpowering sadness washing over him as he stared at her. At her beautiful face, gorgeous hair, breathtaking smile. He look a breath and opened his mouth to speak to her before shutting it again, hanging his head. He didn’t look up as he tried to speak again. ”It’s him, isn’t it? I know, I see the way you look at him…”
That was all he said. Jackson feared that was all he could say without bursting into tears in the café.
