She was done being in hospital beds. The only happiness in her situation came from being able to wear her own pajamas and being around her boyfriend and son. Jay was busy around the hospital, and sometimes when she was sitting in her bed, she would keep the door open just to see him pass by in a rush to see his next patient. Every time he caught her as he went by and flashed that smile of his, Beth melted into a puddle of nothing. She loved Jay Harrison with all of her heart and soul. The things he did to her made her think that no one else would ever make her feel his way.
She was sitting on the bed, humming quietly to herself when her stomach growled. Her stomach. It was so strange not to be able to feel Nate inside of her anymore, not being able to feel his kicks or his turning. But, the strange cravings were gone and she was sure Jay was thankful for that. She laid against the pillows and looked out the window, she hadn't been able to catch a glimpse of herself in the mirror for awhile so she couldn't tell if they were keeping her because she looked near death, or if she looked healthy as they wanted to make sure everything was okay.
The door opened and she turned her head from the window, leaving the site of the green grass and blue sky to one that was far better than either of those. "Alright, Healer Harrison. When are you going to let your patient go home because she really misses her boyfriend and her own bed." Then Nate's eyes caught hers and she smiled at her baby. "Well hello there, handsome. Been a good boy for daddy?" She cooed, sitting up and sitting on the bed cross-legged.

Jay had nearly lost Bethany, it was scary to think that but it had happened. When Bethany had gone into early labour during a visit to the Maddix family home things hadn't gone exactly according to plan. Their son, Nathaniel Felix Harrison had been born perfectly normal and healthy, but complications had arose and Bethany had begun to bleed out and had, for a period of time died. It had put Jay into a dark place, the thought of loosing her yet again had reminded him that life was short, and that good people seemed to be the ones to die.
He couldn't help but still feel afraid, even when Bethany had been taken to Mungos and stabilised, but it had been a long time before she had awoken. Jay had sat by her bedside the entire time, sometimes during his breaks, sometimes he'd take days off just to sit by with Nate in his arms and hope that his girlfriend would wake soon. His colleagues and boss understood, he had nearly just lost his girlfriend and so they didn't mind him just taking the time to be by her bedside in the chance that she did wake up. When she had, it had been a miracle and Jay had felt like crying the second he saw those familiar brown eyes flutter open. Yet, when Bethany woke up unaware of what had happened Jay couldn't bring himself to tell her that she had died. It wasn't exactly something he wanted to acknowledge either, he had felt terrible, he had failed her as her boyfriend and as a healer.
And so life went on, Jay went back to work, checking in on Bethany from time to time to make sure her health was steadily increasing and her strength was returning. Now that the pregnancy was over, she'd have to go back to exercising and eating healthy for the time being so her body could recuperate. Jay would make sure that something like that would never, ever happen again. He couldn't deal with it again, he was sure he'd go grey from all the stress from this debacle, let alone if this were to be a repeated occurrence.
Today though he had gotten Nate, the newborn was so tiny he looked so small in his wooden crib in his nursery, it made Jay a little sad that Bethany wasn't able to come home yet. She could soon though, if she continued to follow the healers' instructions and stuck to her medication. Picking Nate up, the tiny body fitting against his forearm as he cradled the child against his chest, Jay flooed to Mungos, landing easily as he smiled at people he knew, co-workers cooing over the tiny baby as Jay made his way to this girlfriend's hospital room. Pushing open the door he let out a chuckle with a roll of his odd coloured eyes at her statement.
"Hey, I'm not calling the shots here," he said in his defense, "although I'm sure if you continue to be a good girl and follow the instructions given then you'll be home in no time. Said boyfriend and bed miss you too." Jay walked over, placing Nate in Bethany's arms, knowing that as his mother he hadn't had much time with Nate due to being in hospital all the time. Taking a place at the end of the bed Jay just smiled as mother and son interacted. "He's been good, keeping me up late though but that's usual for a newborn," Jay said with another smile, reaching out as he tucked a stray curl out from Nate's warm brown eyes.

When Bethany watched her family walk through the door, her heart soared. She had everything she had ever wanted; a beautiful son, an absolutely amazing boyfriend. This was the life. Sure, she was young and anyone who saw her would no doubt frown upon the lifestyle she had. A mother at seventeen and she thought she was in love with her Hogwarts sweetheart? Yeah. That was Beth, and she couldn't be happier. Never would she have imagined a life such as this, and a great one it was.
"Dont you roll those mutant eyes of yours at me, Harrison. I'm being serious!" She told him as he walked over. He handed her Nate and she cradled the baby awkwardly in her arms. It was so strange, holding a baby and knowing it was hers; that it was her son. Pieces of her and Jay mixed together into a handsome little boy. Beth placed a kiss on Nate's forehead and smiled at him, "Mummy will get the hang of you soon, I promise. Then we won't feel awkward anymore." she cooed to her son, a smile on her pink lips.
"Good girl?" She snorted. "When am I ever a good girl? They're just going to keep me here forever, God knows I've been in the hospital more times this year than I have my entire life!" She rose her eyes to look at Jay with a smile, "I love you."
Jay sat down beside her and she tried to get Nate into a comfortable position. There was no way he could enjoy the way he was sitting in her arms. "I'll be home to help you soon, promise. Then this little guy will get to have me all to himself, daddy will have to wait, won't he, Nate?" She laughed.
Bethany watched as her son looked up at her with her eyes. Her eyes, Jay's curls, he was just a ball of perfection. She held nothing but love for the little boy in her arms. "There's a giant sense of emptiness in me now that Nate's not there anymore," she said, moving closer to Jay and resting her head on his shoulder. "I almost miss being pregnant." Then she paused and lifted her head, giving Jay a look. "Dont get any ideas, Harrison."

"Mutant eyes? Ouch we're hurt, and here we thought you enjoyed these odd coloured eyes," Jay said, feigning hurt. Of course though he knew what Bethany meant though, they had been together long enough to know that. Okay so maybe not, Jay was still young, and inexperienced but truthfully he couldn't be happier than he was with Bethany, and he was sure that was never ever going to change. He liked how he lived, and no one could stop him being with his family now, not after what had conspired at the Maddix family home.
Jay watched mother and son interact and he felt his heart swell and explode with the sheer emotions of devotion and protectiveness he felt over the two before him. He loved them to pieces, and he wouldn't ever want to loose them, nor come close to death as they had in the living room that fateful night. That had cut it too close, and Jay had yet to tell his girlfriend what exactly had happened that night, as it was reason to why she was being kept under such close surveillance and to why she was still in hospital even after she had recovered. The worst case scenario was that she relapsed and Jay didn't even want to think about it, if that were to happen.
"Yeah, let's not talk about that," the young man said with a cringe, he didn't exactly like that his girl had been in and out of hospital. It wasn't exactly saying much for his abilities either since he was able to protect her, something which he had sworn to do so he was feeling a little pathetic right now. "Love you too Beth," Jay whispered back as he watched Bethany shift her son to get him in a more comfortable position in her arms, her words bringing a smile to his lips. "Good luck to you, I'll be looking forward to the break then."
He let out a chortle of laughter at Bethany's suggestion, shaking his head as his curls bounced around, free from their usual ponytail. "Don't worry, I think one is enough for starters," he teased back, although he wasn't sure he was planning on kids again anytime soon. Not since the last time it had happened Jay had watched Bethany die...
He shook himself from his thoughts, instead just settling into the bed as he felt the warmth beside him as he heard Nate's cooing and gurgles which had him smiling all over again. He was so lucky to have them both in his life, so incredibly lucky.
